Question 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

I put 18000 miles on my Jeep without incident. I tow it behind a Class A 43 ft motorhome. I took it in to Jeep dealer for transmission recall. Since then the Jeep wobbles while being towed. I took it into dealer. They did a front end alignment and balance which it really didn't need. Put nitrogen in tires. Front end inspected. Towed it again same problem. Help the dealer has given up trying to figure it out. Anybody else having this issue.

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

my guess is they botched the alignment, and the front and rear aren't tracking correctly. Might be worth taking it to a dedicated "front-end" shop..

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

Could they have damaged any of the parts attached to the Jeep related to the flat tow?

Seems if it was the alignment you would notice something while driving, not just towing. A former neighbor of mine had a problem one time that turned out being one of the pistons on the hitch freezing up.

the wobble you are having is due to poor design of the axles, they are currently working on a new design and is slated to be available sometime in october.. My gf has this on her cherokee .. from what i read re-programming the transmission makes the issue more pronounced (its said all cherokees have the wobble) and even more noticable in second gear.

The OP is talking about towing behind a motorhome where the PTU is shifted into neutral so there is no attachment to the transmission or the RDM.

Thanks for clearing the record, to say the least I was all so perplexed as to how the transmision could be blamed! This poor ZF is being blamed for the bad weather in the mid west as well. I tow my TH behind my motor home and have had zero issues and it tows much better than my Liberty CRD ever did (heavy little sucker). I would look at the towing angle very closely it can not be more than 3" out of level. Perhaps the motor home is lifting the cherokee up in certain situations?

Doesn't the Users Guide for the Cherokee advise against a "Flat Tow" of the Cherokee?

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

There is absolutely no issue towing four down as long as you have AD-ll that allows for the transmission to be disconnected thru the PTU. AD-1 can not be towed four down. Thanks

Yeah, I read that, also. But the OP did not say what Drive System he had, or what configuration he towed in. So I just asked.....

Re: 2014 Jeep Cherokee rv tow wobble

Towing the Jeep as much as the OP apparently has he would have far more problems than a wobble if the Jeep only had AD-1! I would expect the entire drive line would been gone by now.

My Toad set-up is new (Roadmaster) and only had it out once so far. Was this wobble always present, or did it develop over time?

Note the OP was one-post-and-gone.

I haven't heard of anyone having an ongoing problem with flat towing. I've towed mine over 3,000 miles so far and had one incident. I accidently ran the front passenger tire over a curb at about 15 mph doing a right turn and it set up the death wobble. The only way to stop it is to come to a complete stop. Then everything goes back to normal. Haven't heard of anyone getting this death wobble at a high speed.
