Re: 2014 Trailhawk rattle

UPDATE:

I had to add more padding around the A/C pipe at the firewall and tighten the zip-tie to keep the rattle under control. Over time (week or two) that pipe worked itself loose inside its padding and I could feel a vibration in my gas pedal and steering wheel.

I went to Lowes and bought foam pipe insulation, cut it into 1 inch pieces, and wedged around the A/C pipe at the firewall with a chopstick. Then I re-fastened another zip tie between the A/C pipe and the heater connector.

Apparently the engine gives it a good shake at low RPM and it wiggles that pipe loose inside the firewall. It needs to be re-engineered by Jeep and recalled for a fix. I think they should add a fastener to the firewall next to the A/C pipe and fasten the pipe securely to it.

Hi,

You're right. It has to be re-engineered. I spoke to jeep assist today and made my complaint. Unfortunately my u-connect connection went dead halfway through my rant. They never called back.
Best option now is to carry extra zip ties in car, and some traffic cones to use when you can't take the rattle any longer and have to pull to the side to effect this stop gap measure.

Yes, I carry a bag of zip ties, insulation foam, a flashlight, and scissors for that very purpose. I'll try to call Jeep Assist as well. I'm not seeing any acknowledgement of this problem from Jeep.

If anyone is following this thread, please call jeep and show your concern. Eventually the heater and ac pipes will crack and create a major problem.

Re: 2014 Trailhawk rattle

Stopped by the dealer today getting an oil change and detail. I spoke with the service manager about the KL and asked if he was having any issues. Surprisingly, this was not one of them. The biggest issues they are having is:

1. The 4x4 service light and no 4x4 operation available.

2. Customers complaining of erratic shifting behavior of the 9 speed.

Other than that, there has been no issues.

I explained in detail everything that this thread has addressed and the shirt term solutions that folks on here have come up with. He wrote it down. I'm going to check back when I pick it up and see if at least something could be sent to Star about it.

Keep us posted.
My Cherokee Trailhawk is perfect in every other way and I really think it is a superb vehicle. It is amazing they can build a highly complex vehicle and get everything right except for one little thing like this

. 3300 miles.

Re: 2014 Trailhawk rattle

So Star is aware of it, right? I agree with what was mentioned earlier and my Service Manager feels the same way: For a brand new vehicle with as much tech as the KL, the "first run" quality has been very high.

Re: 2014 Trailhawk rattle

I'm at the service department now. They're not confident simply replacing the foam will stop the rattle and want me to wait and see what happens with the STAR report. They're calling someone personally there to discuss it and make sure they understand it. I recommended they engineer a clamp on the firewall to brace that A/C pipe. They also said that the more STAR reports they get the more attention it will get. So if you have this problem make sure your service department knows and tries to make a STAR Report.
