2015 Cherokee fire - ongoing investigation

So I had this pop up in my feed today and I haven't seen much info about it, nor can I find a lot about it, so what I'm posting is about all I have found.

I did notice some news stories were saying it involved the Grand Cherokee - which it does not, I think someone didn't research enough before sending that out.

So here's what I have found so far. Two people have reported fires starting in their 2015 Cherokee, and at least one was a total loss.

Here's some video/photos of one Cherokee and some info -
NHTSA investigating 2015 Jeep Cherokee after new owner's total-loss fire [w/video]

Here's the PDF from NTSB regarding the investigation -

The complain above is believed to have come from this report below.

I thought I would put this out here, I probably won't come back and check in often though, mainly because my work schedule/family/sleep is so erratic right now.

If anything, I think Milous or Pat may be able to help out a bit.

One thing everyone was already asking is whether these were 4 cyl or 6 cyl engines, and I couldn't find any reference to it either.

Re: 2015 Cherokee fire - ongoing investigation

I think we need more information on this before we make any judgements. The Cherokee is in its second year of production and this is the first of this kind of problem reported. Until I know more I am inclined to think this is somebody who wanted out of their lease, car loan, or wanted Chrysler to buy back their vehicle and hurried the process along.

it had 50 miles on it and she had it for 2 days so you think she torched it on a city street because she wanted rid of it after 50 miles? i agree wait and see what the investigation shows but id be pretty surprised if it came out that she torched it.

I could see this happening, our jeeps alternator was not properly tightened from the factory and it burnt the belt and took out the cam seal so with proper heat and conditions i could see a fire very easy, I was in town so not a hot engine so just had to replace parts
