2015 Hitch install.

I went to the dealer today for a receiver hitch install and it took them 3 1/2 hours.I think that is ridiculous.Any thoughts from anyone.

Re: 2015 Hitch install.

There is more to doing it correctly than you think. Maybe an hour could be shaved off but my experience for installing hitches, you want it done correctly. Dealer is shouldering all the liability if something goes wrong.

Re: 2015 Hitch install.

The entire back end is removed as well as internal panels. There are a few online guides on install - download one and have a read. Quoted time is around 6 man hours.

Re: 2015 Hitch install.

Did they do just the hitch or did they also do the wiring harness along with it..
The harness is the time consuming part.
It is also an important part as it separates the trailer lighting from the vehicle lighting.
It also gives you the option of adding a brake controller for a trailer.
It is never good to splice into your vehicle lights for the trailer.

Re: 2015 Hitch install.

Not sure if the loom is fitted standard here or not. We get the tow pack standard but no tow bar and when I pulled it all apart again to run more wiring I did notice their poor workmanship in removing the interior panels and rear wheel flares.

We do have the trailer light controller sitting in tje right rear quarter panel amd the stupid thing won't light the indicators on ny boat trailer but works fine on my caravan!

As for the electric brake controller the export versions do not get the connector up under the dash nor does the blue wire to control the brakes run all the way to the dash - it stops just behind the right rear tail light.

Absolutely rediculous.

Re: 2015 Hitch install.

thats about right, and I was thinking it could even take more time than that. Unless you go with an aftermarket hitch that is easy to install and will piggyback to your oem tail lights.

Re: 2015 Hitch install.

The hitch install is simple and took me less than an hour. I was billed 3 hours labor for the harness install, which is not simple.
