Re: 2015 Jeep Cherokee KL - Features, Options and Pricing

At the heart of ESS is a high-speed/high-durability starter that reduces crank time, culminating in quicker restarts. Its function is regulated by algorithms that act on a vehicle’s powertrain and chassis components.

As a result, acceleration is always aligned with driver inputs. Passive accelerator application is met with measured throttle response; hard inputs trigger aggressive starts. And there’s no waiting for either.

ESS works this way:

• Engine controls constantly monitor vehicle speed
• When the vehicle brakes to a stop, fuel flow is cut and engine turns off – events that save gas and reduce emissions
• Beefier batteries maintain other vehicle systems so in-cabin comfort is unaffected
• When the brake pedal is released, the engine automatically restarts and the nine-speed automatic transmission, the segment-exclusive nine-speed automatic transmission is engaged – all within 0.3 seconds

If a driver chooses to forgo the benefits of ESS, the feature can be deactivated with the push of a button, and then reactivated.

Re: 2015 Jeep Cherokee KL - Features, Options and Pricing

So, is an ESS equipped vehicle still capable of being towed 4 wheels down behind a motorhome, given it also is a 4x4 with AD II?

Re: 2015 Jeep Cherokee KL - Features, Options and Pricing

Two things...

1) I wonder with start-stop, if the A/C stays on somehow? Seems if you were sitting at a very long stop-light that it might start the engine back up? In other words I wonder how you would keep a temp controlled cabin?

2) I noticed it says new "tip in fascia" for v6... I wonder if there are any minor fascia changes to the front of the Limited? I heard their might be another chrome piece or slightly different look in the lower front fascia. Any truth to that?

That's a good question. I'm interested in the answer too. But I'm also interested in knowing why you think ESS might interfere with towing 4 wheels down.

My GUESS is since the AD2 drivetrain is put in neutral, the transmission is shifted into Park, the engine is turned off, and the key fob is removed, everything to do with ESS is disabled.

Am I missing something?

@Milous, for those of us that would like to order a 2015 soon and also want to include the Stop/Start technology, do you have any suggestion on when to order? For example, will you be posting notice when all orders going forward will include the Stop/Start technology?

Thanks!

I will keep a close eye on the ordering system and post here when I find out any information. Order banks are now closed and will re-open on July 9th. I will check at that time to see if the SS feature shows up in the system.

I can't see why it would differ from all the other standard start-stops that have been around for a few years now. Engine turns on when it needs to warm up, battery needs juice, or climate control (think heater in the winter) requires it to maintain cabin temp.

A/C... modern cars usually have electric fans now so the car can maintain airflow through the grill even with the engine stopped...
the heater will still have to depend on the engine.

Unless you have an electrically driven compressor, ac would not operate while the engine is stopped.
