Re: 2015 jeep cherokee start and stop system.

When on a slight upward incline, there's a little rollback just when the trans shifts into gear after taking your foot off the brake. Not sure if that's particularly good thing for trans clutches.

So it doesn't have the "hill start assist" feature?

Hil assist works at an upward angle of 7 degrees or greater. When the angle is less that that slight rollback occurs.

That's interesting. I haven't been in that situation yet. But it stands to reason since ESS shifts the transmission to neutral when it shuts down the engine. So that .3 second start time Jeep refers to includes starting the engine and shifting back into gear. Thanks for the info. Good to know when on an incline/decline.

Re: 2015 jeep cherokee start and stop system.

I would be interested what that 3.2L engine is going to look like and what kind of wear will be on it after 10 years of start/stop. Also, I want to know what the wear on the other components in the system will be like. It may seem fine now but I think the jury is still out on start/stop until 10-15 years down the road and we see how things are.

Yeah. And in the near future there will probably be different tech like generator/starter on the serpentine with the pistons positioned for quick start, or maybe electric motors at the wheels used at launch, not that any of that addresses your point. What's on the 2015's is old tech. It's been used in gas golf carts for eons. Don't know what the component lifetime is on those. Another reason for MaxCare.

Well I will never find out; never had a car for longer than 5 years and never will.

Never had a vehicle for less than 5 years. My last one I sold after 15 years and it is still running strong yet today. I get my money's worth out of extended service contracts. I can't afford to get a different vehicle every 5 years, and have no reason to even if I could. The 15 year old vehicle that I sold only had 50,000 miles on it so it still had lots of life left in it.

I bought the Mopar Max Care Wrap Lifetime Service Contract for my MY 2014 Cherokee Limited ADII 3.2L and intend to get my money's worth out of it too.

Picked up my new Cherokee last Wednesday and received a "lifetime" warranty on the engine. Not 100,000 miles, but life time, as long as I own the Jeep, and in writing.

Concerning the stop/start, if the technology is so old then it must be proven. So far I've put about 200 miles on it with half in the city, using the stop start. Love it.

Just my $.02 worth.
