Re: 2016 Jeep Cherokee KL - Features, Options and Pricing

Just picked up the new Trailhawk yesterday. I think my wife will love it. Me too. As soon as we get all the electronic gadgetry figured out. One thing I haven't been able to figure out yet. Is there a way to see what gear you are in?

If you have a new model you can move the gear lever across which sets the maximum gear, so make sure to keep pushing til shows 9th, then just above (?) it should be the current gear. Theu brought that in for the 2016 models, earlier like mine dont have it..

Congrats! I'm not aware of how to see which gear I'm using. I've had mine about 3 months. Haven't tried the parallel or perpendicular parking assist, yet. Will be interested to hear about your experience when you try parking assist. Have used the ACC cruise control a lot. Automatically maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front when in cruise control is fantastic on the freeway.

I didn't even get the Safetytec or Technology groups and there still is a lot of "stuff" to learn. The engine stop/start is something I need to shut off when I start up the car because it is a pain. Wish it had been an option. If I get the UConnect 8.4AN figured out I will pat myself on the back. I must have done something wrong with the shifter this morning when I took off because it seemed stuck in low gear. Like any computer, I just pulled over, shut it off and back on again and it worked fine. Just needed a reboot, I guess. There is nothing in the users guide about shifting gears but I guess those little + and - signs mean something I haven't figured out yet. We will figure things out, eventually, and if not we are only about 10 minutes from the dealer.

Faintly recall seeing an OFF button for ESS. However, I like it. Took a little getting used to in the beginning, though. I can see how it might be annoying.

Well, well, well

This gives me incentive to keep my Caliber until then. Hopefully they will add the Android Auto /CarPlay functionality to it too. Oh, and HIDs on the TrailHawk!

Mine is a 2016 and I don't understand what you are saying. What do you mean "move the gear lever across?" Across what? And "shows 9th?" Where does it show? Somewhere in the instrument cluster?

Thanks.

Yep in the cluster. If you push the gear stick sideways you then have the current gear displayed in the instrument cluster just above the gearstick position indicator. This will hold the vehicle to that gear maximum. Pushing forward or back (+ or -) on the gear stick will change that number to a new maximum gear allowed. In the 2016 just above that it also shows the current gear as well. It may be a setting to turn it on, not sure, as minenis a 2015 and we dont get that feature. What I was referring to was once you push the gear shift sideways if you press plus a few times to change the max gear to 9th then you wont be limiting the available gear range.

Why they dont have an option to just show current gear is beyond me. I know the average punter would not care but many would like to know.

The 2016 (January build) tranny is smooth as silk,
barely feel shift points after a months driving.
I have been thru 3 different models in 10 years
now starting with '07 Caliber CVT,'11 Journey 6spd auto
and now another learning curve '16 Jeep LTD.

FYI, Owner Manual pages 490-497 discuss the Electronic Range Select (ERS) shift control. Page 497 offers the most concise explanation, pretty much what SeaComms posted.

Just got my owners manual today and it explains it pretty well, but thanks for the heads up. I pretty much got the ERS thing figured out from SeaComms explanation. A little weird on Jeep's part but it works. Maybe there will be a change for the 2017 model.

what are the odds that the vehicle everyone keeps seeing is ACTUALLY the 2018 Cherokee and not a Compass/Patriot replacement?
