2100 mile road trip

Went from St. Louis to Daytona Beach towing my motorcycles. I averaged about 20 mpg. My GPS worked fine, but every once and a while, the miles to destination froze up. The Jeep had 2 adults, luggage, and towed 1200lbs.ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1413934892.431578.jpg

Re: 2100 mile road trip

I have been using 87 for everyday but 89 for towing and/or my 350 mile trips on the highway to Chicago.
I have noticed a difference in performance with 89, but again that is subjective. It seems my mpgs up tick a bit also, even though I know octane is suppose to have no bearing on mpg.
But again towing my boat (1600lbs) on the highway I am down to 19 mpg. So you are right on in my book with your mpg.

Re: 2100 mile road trip

It probably wouldn't hurt to run 89, especially with these cheap gas prices. I'll try it on my next road trip. I go fast downhill and slower up hills. Is that what you do or do you use cruise control.

I use cruise control almost all the time. With this Tech group I have it is called ACC and I never have to touch the brake as it adjusts itself on hills and vehicles in front.

How did it tow the trailer? Any sort of sway or breaking issues? Did you notice the tongue weight at all? I can see it is not that heavy, but just curious of your experience. Also, how are the mirrors for towing?

Re: 2100 mile road trip

Trailer weighs about 1300 lbs. with about 100 lb tonque. I went from St. Louis to daytona beach, so there were hills. Some hills I got up to 75 mph and had no sway. My setup is pretty good with weight distribution. I have a Curt hitch. I get the Jeep into 8th gear going down hills and along flat straights. I let it gradually slow going up hills to keep it out of 5th gear. The Jeep has 16K miles with 5K being from towing my motorcycles all over Mother Earth.

And the mirrors work just fine with my setup. My trailer is 6' wide.
