4x4 mode in Trailhawk cherokee 2014

in the TrailHawk Cherokee 2014, which one is consider the 4x4?
in the Ford F-150, there is a switch you switch from 2H to 4H when you need to ride in teh 4x4 mode.
but in this Trailhawk, there is " auto" mode all the time.
please help explain.
when will be consider this ride is in 4x4 mode?
thank you.

In auto it is in 4x4 when it senses wheel slip in the front. In other modes it could be considered 4x4. Your F150 had a 4x4 lock, a trailhawk will only have a 50/50 split like your 4x4 in your ford.

Go to the link below and scroll down to "Watch our 4x4 System in Action". There are three videos, one each for the various systems.

then it should not be label as "4x4" don't you think?
then it would be like AWD, correct? if yes, then why they label 4x4? do you think 4x4 is driving for all year around instead of?
thank again for help me explain so I understand better...
Blessings you guys are the best!

thank you. I watched it before I order my Trail hawk, but I thought when my Jeep come, It would have a separate switch for me to switch as I needed ( like my F-150) but in real, it did not have that option for me... to my understand now, this Trailhawk is look like "auto" drive in 4x4 mode all the time... which is not sound like regular 4x4, correct?
how do i switch to nornal mode ( for regular drive like 2H so I could save on gas mileage). please help! thank you again.

Re: 4x4 mode in Trailhawk cherokee 2014

It is my understanding that the switch is automatic. From FWD to 4X4 and then back again. It is really a very intelligent system in that you don't have to pre-plan and switch to 4H, it does it for you when it needs it. The hawk has the locking rear differential also and that is manually controlled. You cannot call it an AWD system because said systems are full time All Wheel Drive. This is front wheel drive and when needed it automatically connects itself and runs 4x4.

Your F-150 was just an old school "stupid" system and needed to be told what to do.

Please...someone correct me if i'm wrong here.

My Thawk - now that you've driven the vehicle, watch the video one more time.

Re: 4x4 mode in Trailhawk cherokee 2014

As I understand you are right Jethro. it is in FWD unless it senses that it needs the 4WD and then it will activate 4WD. There is not a switch or lever to make it full time 4WD.

Re: 4x4 mode in Trailhawk cherokee 2014

This is kinda technical but the 2014 TH is listed at the bottom. It is more like a combination of them all, AWD, 4WD and 4X4.

Since this has never been done there is a slight negative connotation to the the article but time will tell.
