You know Marlon, I have a lot of respect for you and the other guys who put my Jeep together.

I read your posts and usually agree with what you have to say.

But, with this post I have lost some of the respect I have for you.

The last line in your post shows just how ignorant you really are.

Anyone with first hand knowledge knows that the pages of Consumer Reports are too slick to be effectively used as toilet paper.

Trust me if you are not into cars and putting them together there is no way you could do the work in one of those plants regardless of the pay. I give guys like Marlon a lot of credit and respect. You have to be strong both mentally and physically to do that kind of work day after day. When was the last time you were in a Chrysler plant? Before my dad passed away he installed a lot of the automation in both Trenton Engine and Chrysler Chemical. Funny thing was that when Chrysler hit bad times, closed, and sold off Chrysler Chemical, the Japanese bought it. They brought in a couple of large military style cargo planes and stripped that plant leaving it for our EPA to clean up before it leached into the Detroit River. My point is that if our manufacturing technology is so bad why would the Japanese go to the trouble and expense to strip it out of Chrysler Chemical and fly it back to Japan?

BTW, I ran into something by accident the other night. I live just a few miles from Auburn Hills, Chrysler headquarters. I pulled into the local Cony Island the other night and noticed 3 Cherokees parked in a row along with what appeared to be a customized Town and Country. You don't often see 3 Cherokees parked together just yet so it peeked my curiosity. I parked my new Cherokee in the back of the lot to avoid door dings and walked over to the 3 Cherokees and Town and Country to explore them. I guess I made their drivers nervous because in a few minutes a guy came out of the Cony Island inquiring what I was doing. I pointed to my Cherokee in the back of the lot and said I was just looking over the 3 Cherokees since I just bought one. That apparently satisfied him and we began to talk. He was with Jack Roush Enterprises/Engineering and Chrysler had hired them to take the 3 Cherokees and the Town and Country mule on a shake down cruise . Chrysler had been hearing of reports of problems from people like you yet couldn't duplicate them. So they hired Jack (cat in the hat) Roush of NASCAR fame to see what they could come up with. There were 2 Limiteds and one TrailHawk. One of the Limiteds was right hand European drive. The Roush team was evenly divided with 2 female and 2 male drivers so they were even looking to see if gender driving had anything to do with it. Bottom line Chrysler is not the company it used to be. It takes quality control very seriously now. Compare the quality in the Jeep Cherokee to the Ford Escape that was just recalled for the 7th time.
Your profile says fenton, that is more than a few miles away from auburn hills... anyways they have that stuff going on all the time down here (I drive past headquarters every night going to work). They are testing pretty much every system still, they want to be sure they got everything right. Usually when you see them there are three together, sometimes two but most times 3. They must be doing something right to be selling so good though! Hopefully they can keep that pace going and the new doesn't wear off.

LOL, you need to get a map. It is only 66 miles from my garage door to the heart of Detroit and Auburn Hills is not nearly that far. I would say Auburn hills is about 30 minutes from my garage door. I grew up in Allen Park so I know southeastern Michigan well.

It depends on your definition of a few miles. To me a few miles is under 10 miles or so.

I'm not impressed. Heck, my Liberty's interior is holding up way better than Corollas of the same age. Sorry.

Everything still works and there's not one broken piece of anything anywhere. The last Corolla I drove was a '10 and the door armrest had sunk into the door panel and the console lid's latch was broken. Oh and the CEL was on. I asked the owner how she liked it. She said it's "nothing special" and it was actually starting to "irritate" her.

So yeah.

Watched a You Tube video of a Jeep Executive being interview about the new Cherokee. His name is Mitch Claw and he is Vehicle Line Executive for Jeep Cherokee. Claw said the only time that 9th gear comes into play is on mountainous roads with steep inclines and declines. Under normal driving conditions no matter how fast you are driving, you will not get higher than 8th gear. I guess I will stop looking for it until I drive the North Georgia Mountains.

I'm not debating the accuracy of his comment. But if I was diving on steep mountain roads (Up or Down) the last thing I would want is ninth gear.

Mitch Claw had a lot to do with the development of the new Cherokee and I have to believe that he knows what he is talking about.

Re: 9 speed German Transmission

Lower gear and a jake brake (if you got it) to trim speed.
9th on a down 7% is in the Need for Speed category.
