They went all in on my trade in my opinion. ($27,500 for a 2012 4D Wrangler sport with leather). This is goofy high.

Final sticker price on my TrailHawk is $40,050 for every option except sun roof and engine block heater. "Invoice" is $38,120. My sales price is $37,300.

I ended up getting additional warranty which is something I never do. The F&I guy lowered my interest rate by 2.5% to 3.8% to hook me on the warranty and I went with it. Its 10 years 100,000 miles bumper to bumper with $100 deductible.

So now I'm waiting..... still
Are you saying they were going to charge you 6.3% interest? That's crazy high in this market. Even 3.8% is a little high. You should be able to get interest in the low 3% range without a problem. Did they give you a good deal on the warranty?

Good deal or not that percentage is too high. You have Penfed.org at 1.72 for 72 months and good rates for 60 months and below. Cancel the warranty and get a better rate the warranty for a lifetime and unlimited miles and 100.00 deductible can be had for 2150 at Ziegler. That deal he got wasn't the greatest, they called themselves helping him on the trade in and they banged him on the back end of the deal.

The interest rate isn't rock bottom due to a less than ideal score stemming from self employment/showing yearly losses. I'm pleased with the rate. Have I gotten better in the past sure have but times change. I'm at roughly 50% equity on the rig anyway so its not a big issue.

Pay cash and there is no need for any of this interest rate baloney.

The alternate to extended warranties is simply saving the money, in a separate account is necessary. Say it is $1,500 or $2,000. If something goes wrong, you have cash to cover it, or a big part of it. If not, you keep the cash. With the warranty, the money is gone, no matter what.

It's not as easy as that. If you indeed keep a car for the entire warranty period (10 years - 100K miles), I can assure you that repair expenses will be higher than $2K - especially on a vehicle purchased in its initial MY.

F Stephen your theory only works if the vehicle only experiences one issue at 1500-2000 so while you may think its a good idea it's not practical. The extended will cover EVERYTHING no just one occasion as you've suggested.

Really? My 2006 Ford Explorer was an extensive redesign (new frame, suspension, engine, transmission) and had almost zero expenses outside the factory warranty the first 100,000 miles. The same with my 2002 Mountaineer, which was an extensive redesign with a new frame, suspension, engine, and transmission.

In the case of my 1996 Impala SS, the extended warranty would have paid off, but that just means that I should not have bought GM junk in the first place.

I have been "rolling the dice" for 45 years with both foreign and domestic brands. I have never bought or needed an extended warranty. Of course, I always trade between 50K & 70K miles.

I believe the Jeep warranty is 5 years/100,000 miles.

Powertrain, transmission and perforation are 6 years/100K miles. Everything else is 3 years/36K miles.

That is from my build report.
