You might consider using one of the many free programs (e.g. iTunes) to rip his CDs onto a computer drive and then transfer to an SD card. Each 32G card can hold several thousand songs, so he won't be bothered changing CD.
I'll leave it to others to provide better/corrected technical details.....but the idea is sound, and your dad will be pleased that he can see/select/play his entire library on the 8.4. And no space lost to the player.
not sure if he will like having to mess with the radio to play his music. with cds just insert what you want to hear. Dont know about the quality of the system in the cherokee but mp3s suck. My dad probably won't notice though. ill see what he says.
I couldn't believe it when I found out a cd player wasn't standard, and the over priced optional one is single disk.
I bit the bullet and ripped my cd's to an sd card using Windows media player, and couldn't be happier.
He will be able to select his music by genre, artist, album, song, etc.
I found using voice commands to do this is easier than messing with the radio, plus I don't have cd's all over the place.
IMHO if you can sell him on the SD card, he will thank you, if not today ... in a month or so.
