Another 2014 Cherokee Transmission Complaint

[Sorry for the novel, but figured the back story may help with understanding.]

I have loved my '14 Cherokee up until the last six months.

The first occurrence was last year when I was trying to leave a restaurant. I came out and my car was dead. I could not even jump it. I was forced to flatbed it home and then replace the battery.

Then, during the holidays, while I was leaving the gas station (tank had gotten to just below a quarter tank) the Jeep suddenly started to idle roughly, the RPMs dropped, and then it stalled. After a moment I was able to drive the car around town and couldn't replicate the issue. Went to take it during work for a quick errand and it stalled on me in the middle of the road, telling me I needed to shift to P and then back to drive. After it a moment of shifting, the car died and had no power (nothing would work including hazards). Very scary! I was eventually able to restart it and the issue disappeared.

A few days after that, the car battery died again. Thankfully, the six-month old battery was still under warranty from Autozone and I was able to replace it.

Since then, I have had a few issues with the car idling roughly, but thankfully, no further issues with the battery. I was told it may have been an issue with the gas I got, so I've been keeping it at half a tank and filling at a different station.

Until yesterday. I was on my way home and stopped at a light when suddenly the car idled roughly, RPMs dropped, and then everything started blinking. The message "Service Transmission" came on the dashboard screen. Thinking back to my earlier issue, I shifted to Park and then attempted to go back into drive. This is when the largest thunking noise I've ever heard came from my engine and the whole car shook. Attempted turning the car off and on a few times and experienced the same issue (all while in the middle of a busy road). The message eventually went away but the check engine light stayed on. I limped it to a shop where they told me they can't fix it and had to take it to the dealership.

I'm out of warranty and I'm concerned that Jeep is going to require me to replace the transmission. I've kept up with my maintenance and never let the oil life get below 50%. Car looks brand new except for the peeling buttons (but that's another complaint for another day). I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. It's currently at a dealership being evaluated but I'm uncertain that the issue will be replicated while it's there and they're going to ask me to come pick it up.

Has anyone had the same issues? Any luck with Jeep owning up to this problem?

Re: Another 2014 Cherokee Transmission Complaint

The only good news I can give you is that the 2014's (and 2015's) have a 5-year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. So unless you drove around the world four times your transmission should still be in warranty.

Re: Another 2014 Cherokee Transmission Complaint

2015 here no tranny problems BUT my 14 TH was ok until I had them do a tranny flash for the C clip and from there on after I came to a stop it would start out in 3rd gear unless I waited 5 second b4 I moved and they tried 3 times to fix it and it never happened. B4 the flash and coming up to a stop it would down shift into 1st gear at about 4 mph which was great which let it start off in 1st gear at a stop. I got a great deal on my 15 instead of going thru a lemon law thing.
