I got lucky that my dealer squared it away after the TSB wreck.

FCA should have gone with the tried and trued 8 Speed and not tried to get cute with the 9 speed.

How often is the 9th gear EVER engauged ? Above 80 MPH...... Really ?

Should have stayed with the 8 speed and all this mess would have been avoided.

The 8 speed is for rear wheel drive, not adaptable for front wheel drive KL and other FWD models in FCA line up.

Re: Another 9-speed transmission thread.......

I have a Sep 14 build KL (3.2 V6). I've never had an issue with the transmission but during the First Service (June 15) the Dealer performed the transmission flash anyway.

I must say that it drives even better now.

I don't know whether I've reached 9th gear or not, and I don't really care. All I know is that when I'm driving on our Freeways at 110 - 115kmh (68 - 71mph), the V6 ticks along at around 1,600 - 1,700rpm

Question 2016 Trailhawk transmission reliability

Looking for comments from 2016 Trailhawk owners regarding their transmission performance. TIA.

Got an impulse to buy a new 2016 Trailhawk, but read numerous nightmare problems with 2015 9-speed transmissions. Read accounts of successful legal actions to get buy backs of their 2015 Trailhawks.

Reading numerous negative customer reviews on various sites about their 2015 Cherokees' 9-speed transmissions has spooked me. However, if that transmission problem is so widespread how could Jeep sell anymore Trailhawks? I am skeptical the negative reviews about the 9-speed transmission are representative of most Trailhawk owners.

Re: Another 9-speed transmission thread.......

I think you answered your own question. I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited 3.2L ADII. I have never had a transmission problem or never had any of the flashes, TSBs, or tranny recalls done. To me the transmission problems are way overblown and everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

The only reason i got my 14 Trailhawk flashed was because of the C clip and every once in a while i stretch the 3.2 legs lol.

Re: Another 9-speed transmission thread.......

So I took my 2014 Cherokee to the dealer and explained how re-loading these 9 modules have helped fix the many trans issues. He said that many of these have nothing to do with the transmission....he also was hesitant to do anything like this.

So re-loading might be a fluke. Unless you or someone can show me how this really worked.

That's the problem with this transmission issue. Being able to re-create the issues we customers see.

i'm extremely disappointed with FCA. Doubt I'll ever buy another vehicle from them ever.

Well, it was my dealer who selected the 9 modules to update and it sure solved my shifting problem!!! I have no way to know what the modules are but there could well be 9 specialized and related modules. Perhaps some research could validate what each module is. Are you sure that your dealer isn't just being lazy?

Re: Another 9-speed transmission thread.......

He might be lazy - for sure. He's been a good guy for me but this trans thing is not someones imagination running wild. It's real. I'm concerned that I'm going to get into an accident whilst the stupid thing is searching for a gear....

Dealer still has my car and he gave me a loaner so I told him to take his time...get it fixed.

I'll report back...

Thanks for the reply too!!

More and more dealers are being reluctant to do these transmission flashes as in a lot of cases they do more harm then good. The bad feature of these flashes is that there is no way to go back once you have one done. My dealer will not do a transmission flash unless you can provide a very convincing argument to do so and even then will document that you requested it be done. I am one of those rare people who has never had a transmission flash, TSB, or recall done to my transmission and it shifts just fine. My Cherokee was custom ordered and delivered 11/13. I am not about to mess with something that is working.
