Macfan, we have (20) stock units that were ordered as late as 8-30 that are in KZxx status, and (4) sold orders that were placed in July or August still in a holding pattern because of the way they're equipped. All preference means is that if there is only 1 part left and 2 frames on the line, the sold order gets it. If there is one spot on a truck and both are the next 2 in line, the sold order goes.

It doesn't mean that even in an average scenario your rep is wrong, but this is not an average scenario. Whatever is closest to the truck is gonna get loaded first. As far as the builds, they can't run one-off's for each sold order. Whatever they can make a run of is gonna run. It is what it is.

Respectfully, we are going to have to agree to disagree as Auburn Hills is right down the road from me. If you read through your explanation you contradict yourself.

I live in the armpit of the mid south and according to jeeps site there are four dealers within 150 miles of me with 1 or more Cherokees in stock. No TrailHawks though.

Is there any way to see the ETA for 'in-transit' vehicles on the Jeep.com website? I'm excited to see three in transit to dealers within a 200 mile radius this evening, but can't figure out how to tell when to expect them to arrive.

How can you see the "in transit" units?

go to the Jeep.com website, hover over the 'Vehicles' tab and pick 'Cherokee', and then hover over 'Shopping Tools' and pick 'Search New Inventory'.

OR go to your dealer's (or any nearby dealer's) website, select new inventory, select cherokee. You will either get an in stock listing , or an Icon that says in transit.

You both are right in a sense. At a very high level, those that are marked as sold are built in priority over those for general dealer inventory.

With that said, other factors that contribute to the scheduling of the build include dealer allocation, parts levels (current and future), part restrictions (got a bad batch of RA4 screens, only build RA2s...), current issues (not going to continue building things that will require intensive fixes in the future) and many other things. The job of the plant is to continue to churn out vehicles at all times because an idle plant means money is being burned instead of being earned. The plants usually do runs of vehicles especially in the flex plants (Belividere with the Dart and Compass/Patriot notably) and if a dealer order hits all the right combinations of factors prior to a sold order, it gets built.

It's not a simple A+B = Cherokee! formula. There's calculus involved and a quiz at the end

And I thought that calculus was a useless subject.

To my surprise, going to a local dealer's website identified some in-transit Cherokees that are not listed on the Jeep.com inventory location link. Big thanks to SE3.5!

Re: Are dealers ordering these?

The Jeep inventory tool is having issues not related to the Cherokee right now. Fix is being worked on.
