Thank you for taking the time to post some interesting information. I'm in southern California and drive 23,000 business miles per year, so know all about tiring drives through traffic.

I was quoted $200 below invoice with no other discounts.

I just finished reading the Chrysler affiliate program information. The only vehicles specifically mentioned as excluded are Viper and SRT vehicles.

I would think at this stage the price through the affiliate program would be hard to beat.

Sticker price & markup must be a phenomenon for the smaller dealerships. Almost 90% of everything we sell is below invoice, usually at the 1% because of the friends/supplier price availability. A unit is a unit is a unit to us - I sold an SRT Grand Cherokee at invoice last month.

If a dealer is wanting to mark the things up, unless somebody HAS to have one, wait a month or so. The price will come down soon. But...there are supposed to be killer lease deals when these finally hit the ground. I did hear that some have been shipped out West. I think the factory is trying to plan an en masse release on the same date.

Re: Are dealers ordering these?

There is a dealership in this area that adds a markup sticker (called market value adjustment) to each vehicle. Then if they advertise discounts it is taken from the DSRP not the MSRP.

One thing I know - dealerships all have their own approach to pricing, and it's governed by many different factors. My location has a discount formula that works for us. I firmly believe that it takes care of the customer because they get a good deal, and we make a couple hundred dollars per car. That's fair, isn't it? I often say, we'll be more than fair with you and all we ask is that you be more than fair in return.

Can you beat up a dealer for a better price in any car transaction? Usually. Can you play a dealer against another? Sure - everyone is out to steal each other's business for a hundred bucks whenever possible. But if you like your dealer, and he takes good care of you, and you can have a two-way loyal relationship, just buy the dang car. Don't spend hours and hours of a salesperson's time only to ditch him because the other dealer is going to save you a hundred bucks on a $30k car. Reward the guy who did the hard work, is giving you a good price, and is going to be there for you down the line.

Agreed. The one thing that burns me is the guy that takes the last pencil down the road over $5 a month or a couple hundred $$$ after a thorough presentation. If we don't make a little money, we can't stay here to take care of the guy down the road. At the same time, I'm not going to retire from one deal.

On a lighter note...tomorrow I get to go beat up a Cherokee test mule in Clarkston, MI, at the DTE Music Theater parking lot. Oh Boy!!! Any specific questions people have, or color combos requests? Bear in mind, I'm leaving my home at 445am tomorrow, but I'll have my phone on for email requests.

Well since you asked, and you get to go play with one before us. I was wondering about a few mundane, everyday things: lumbar support for the driver, and ac/heater performance especially those rear seat vents. I know, boring but I spend a lot of time in my vehicle and these things matter to me.

If you get to go anywhere near highway speeds, let us know what the cabin noise is like.

If you get to run over a Subaru owner, do they look any less smug underneath a Cherokee?

I will get to test them out soon as well, possibly even tomorrow when we are supposed to have targeted training at our 'ship. (That is, assuming the trainer brings one with her.) I'll keep these things in mind and report back.

That Subaru comment made me snort.
