auto on function

I have observed in both my Cherokee and in my GC (both 2014's) that the auto on fuction for heated seats and steering wheel do not come on if the initial start up is not cold enough to trigger the auto on functionality.....if I back out of my 46 degree garage into the 10 degree outside the seats/wheel do not come on. If I trun the ignition off and then restart they come on. Spoke to my dealer and he had no reason but I am sure there is one! I would think that if the sensor gets below 41 they would come on and time out like they usually do but that does not happen. Any explanation? I wonder if the software can be tweaked? thanks

If all else fails read the manuals. (BTW, if you don't have the full set of manuals Chrysler will send you a set for free if you call them at their headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.) They will tell you the heated seats come on at 40 and below and the vented seats come on at 80 and above. Both only are auto on from a start. Neither comes on just because you hit that temperature going down the road. Garages play havoc with the temperature sensor and if you have parked in a garage for any length of time most likely you will have to turn either the heated or vented seats on manually.

Re: auto on function

This sounds normal.

The auto on function is there to pre-warm your seats when its cold on start up, if warm.... no heat. I don't see why they would come on if the vehicle is already warm and it becomes cold out (theoretically, your seats and steering are still warm as the vehicle is already warm, etc...).

What you are asking for is to have the vehicle constantly monitor the outside temp and automatically turn on the heated seats\wheel the moment the outside temp goes below the limit. This doesn't seem practical and is unnecessary IMHO.

Re: auto on function

I actaully have both sets of complete manuels for both of my Jeep vehicles that I requested from Jeep and therefore I understand how the auto on system works. There must be a way that rapid changes in ambient temperatures in a short duration can be addressed in the developemnt of the software to address the situation that I discribed. Thanks for your responses, I will say out of my 8 Jeep products these 2014's are the best to date.

Ok, yeah.... I hear ya.

But a rapid change in outside temp is not going to instantly make your seat and steering wheel cold while your driving, I cant imagine a scenario where this would be useful at all.
