Auto Stop/Start - someone posted a fix/mod...

Hi,

A couple of weeks ago I saw on a forum a modification someone did to automatically disable the cursed auto stop/start feature. They used some sort of delay timer that simulated pressing the button and it involved soldering a few wires to the PCB inside the control module below the display.

If anyone know where I can find that, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Re: Auto Stop/Start - someone posted a fix/mod...

There will be a much easier and more flexible solution that plugs into the diagnostic port with no permanent modifications available soon. It memorizes the last state of the start stop disable button between drives.

It will first be available for the Grand Cherokee in October. I am planning to have it available for the standard Cherokee a bit later.

See Smart Stop Start - Home.

I would be very careful about ANY wiring modifications, soldering included, to ANY circuits in this vehicle. Especially true before the warranty expires.
Any issues that occur related to those areas will be in question.
Also remember there is usually always power in some of those circuits, even with the ignition is off. One mistake and you blow the board(s).
whitexkr probably has a better solution, depending on how it works and affects the rest of the system and displays.

I no it is a pain but I learned after I start it just to hit the A button and do I forget sometimes YES LOL. You start trying to mod it and there goes the warranty.

Re: Auto Stop/Start - someone posted a fix/mod...

I have auto stop/start on another car. It was annoying at first, but I've grown accustoned to it and even liking it now after 14,000 miles. There's some driver control on it from the brake pedal, and it's very clever + convenient. Rolling to a stop with feather light braking and it won't stop the engine. When sitting at stop with the engine auto stopped it can be started by feathering the brake pressure off to very light and the engine auto starts ready for take-off. Does the Jeep auto stop/start do that??????????? It's a very nice sub-feature!!!

Sounds like you are talking about my wife's new 2017 Escape Titanium. The auto stop/start works perfectly. I love it. You can also go into the settings and with one button push turn it off. We think it is so good we would never turn it off. I have no idea if Ford had the same kind of teething problems.

I would not be surprised if this system was purchased/licensed from the same source. FCA should be able to fix it. It is a great feature and I hope we find it on all vehicles in the future.

The absolute worst invention ever..
Not sure how much gas it actually saves, like, how long are you really fully/completely stopped?

Hit the damn button on start up and good to go..
Did I mention I hate that feature? hahaha

Studies have shown you will save 8-12% depending on your driving conditions. Keep in mind that it is also about reducing the pollutants in the air and not just about saving gas. Some people care about that, others don't.

I have it on another vehicle. Tried to like it: went from hate > annoyed > reluctant acceptance > acceptance > like it!! It takes time and personal commitment. On my other vehicle, it's totally controllable from the brake pedal: feather brake pedal out upon stopping and it won't trigger engine stop. If engine is auto stopped, feather brake out and it will restart engine for ready takeoff. My other vehicle claims .3 seconds restart (IIRC) - approx. the time it takes to normally move from brake to go pedal. So, it's totally controllable from the foot brake and that has become my happy norm.

IMHO, it does save fuel - it seems like the restart is at "idle" fuel injection and not pumping the accelerator/flooding the carb as was the starting norm in the old days.

YMMV.
