Bluetooth text messaging no longer working

Hi everyone,

Jeep newbie here... I am so excited to finally be a Jeep owner.

I have had my Cherokee for 1 week now.
The texting via Bluetooth worked when I first tested it out, however today I went to use it, the text messaging option was greyed out and when I went to send my message, it said that my device was not supported/compatible...yet it worked last week.

I have unpaired the device and paired it again, this has not resolved the problem. My phone or uConnect have not been updated in the last few days.

Does anyone else have the same issues or a fix?
I've been in touch with the dealer but they don't have any idea.
I would appreciate any help

Have you checked/ticked the option on the phone to receive data notifications? The phones vary with the wording of the option but it will say something like that. What is your phone?

Re: Bluetooth text messaging no longer working

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I have not changed any settings on my phone since it last worked.
I repaired the phone and now the text message box is no longer greyed out but when I go to send it still says it's now incompatible.
Through my Googling, it seems like this may be a problem with the Android update, although I'm pretty sure I haven't had one in the last week. I've just downloaded the new Android update and will install that and see how I go.
It's just thrown me off because it worked fine previously. Notifications are on.
Thanks for your comment 😊

What version of Uconnect are you on?

Congrats on the new KL by the way.

I've got the 5.0
Also, the voice recognition no longer understands when I ask her to send a text message. She tunes the radio to some obscure station instead...

Thankyou!!! I am in love with this car...The feelings I have for this car are indescribable...I imagine it's the same feeling you have when you watch your first child being born. Hahahaha! I just love it.
I keep opening my garage door to just look at it and admire it. Obsessed!

You're as obsessed as I am JGA. I did that with the Grand. Infact, I parked it outside of my kitchen window for the first month just to gaze upon it.

It's a Jeep thing.

With regards to the Uconnect - Press Settings and then System Information. The version number will be displayed.

Something like - V14.05.03 or maybe V14.22.13 for example.

Lol that's hilarious!
Duh, sorry i misunderstood. I checked on the settings menu but couldn't see anything that told me the actual version it's running.
I've updated my device to Android v 4.4.2 and still no success.
I'm really frustrated and don't know of this is a Jeep issue or an Android issue considering that it worked previously.
I don't want to look like a tool by going back to the dealer if the phone that's the issue!

Re: Bluetooth text messaging no longer working

To add to the confusion, we tested my husband's phone. He has the exact same phone - Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with the exact same Android update (4.4.2) and his works fine.... The only difference is that we are with different carriers.
What the?!?
I found a page where other users have logged similar problems with Google just in case this helps any else experiencing the same issue.

Re: Bluetooth text messaging no longer working

That thread's an interesting read JGA. I will be interested to see if my HTC One is fine in the KL. It works flawlessly in the GC.

Carriers make a difference with texting compatibily and Uconnect. Your Samsung is OK, but you carrier may not be.

I'm inclined to agree.
Husband is with Telstra, I'm with Optus.

I still get a kick out of how my inexpensive Tracfone (around $75 and comes with free triple minutes) pay as you go Samsung Centra Galaxy Android smartphone works perfectly with ALL of the features of Uconnect. It rides on Verizon but I think it has more to do with the version of bluetooth and Samsung hardware than anything else. I get a chuckle when people with the expensive iPhones complain that all of the Uconnect features don't work for them.
