Re: cheroke or grand cherokee

FWIW, we are getting rid of our 2012 Overland V8 4X4 for a Cherokee Trailhawk.

Re: cheroke or grand cherokee

I ordered a Cherokee Trailhawk over the Grand Cherokee for several reasons.
I will be able to tow it behind my C-class RV.
It is cheaper.
Gas mileage is a tad better.
I don't need the extra cargo space.
I can still tow my small trailer with a 4 wheeler or two on it but I have a Dodge Dakota that tows up to 7,000lbs for my 18' trailer.
It has all the little extras that I want similar to the Grand Cherokee.

I will be using for my job. I am an Engineer for an electric utility so I have meet customers on property before it is developed, drive around on new construction sites and occasionally drive down our right-of-ways so it will be really handy. At least I think it will be.

Basically it all depends on what you be using it for and what features you want.

As far as the looks. I really like the looks of both the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee but I really like the looks of the Trailhawk. I think it is more unique.

Re: cheroke or grand cherokee

I looked at both but after looking at the Cherokee for a few months, the GC actually looks dated to me (seriously). If the design trends don't follow the Cherokee, I may be wrong, but I have the distinct feeling that we'll soon see the GC look more like the Cherokee.

Other than design, I like loaded cars, so when I built it up, GC's price quickly went ballistic; the loaded Cherokee was a much friendlier beast. Finally, I don't need the size of the GC and I am sure that the GC fuel consumption will be higher.

Did you buy the higher end Cherokee?
If so [or anyone else want to chime in], hows the actual fuel mileage if you spend a lot of time on up/down/up/down mountain two lanes mixed with long cross country freeway drives?
This would be with the top engine, zooted up, etc.

Re: cheroke or grand cherokee

We have one of each, see signature box. I like them both but they are different "beings". The diesel in the GC is great so far. I wanted the somewhat better off-road capabilities of the Overland, which is my subjective opinion. I also like the bigger vehicle. We really never considered the Trailhawk, as my wife is not interested in that. The Trailhawk vs the Overland, either would be great, it is just what you like. I prabably would have gone for a diesel Trailhawk GC, if there had been such a thing.

Agree that the GC looks dated.

I will quickly answer but since I am still waiting for mine, not sure it will help. I did get the Limited V6 4x4 with all the goodies except the tow package. I opted for the ADI after driving both I and II. I just felt that on the pavement it was a much smoother ride and that's where I will be 95 pct of the time. During my approx. 100 mile test drive I averaged about 21.5 mpg with 50/50 split between city driving in a major metropolitan area and highway driving. All flat area no mountains but I did push the car at times. Of course I am coming from 17.5 mpg in my BMW X3 so fuel economy would always be better . If you are really concerned about fuel economy you could also get the fwd and the 4 cylinder.

I am in the middle of a road trip with my Cherokee Trailhawk, V6, comfort/conv and Tow. The trip is from Dallas, TX to Socorro, NM across US380. Then back to Dallas via Carlsbad. In Carlsbad today. So far I have averaged 26.5 MPG (hand calculated) 100% highway. Day 1 was 11 hours straight from Dallas to Socorro. I was tired at the end of the day but was comfortable for the whole trip. Most of the trip has been with cruise control at 65 or 70 MPH depending on the speed limit.

That's great mileage. The slightly lifted TH, aggressive TH tire tread, and higher final drive ratio with the tow package makes this even more impressive.
