Cherokee Shutter on initial acceleration

I have a 2014 Limited Cherokee built in March 2014 with the 3.2 and I notice a shutter when I take off from a traffic light. The shutter is subtle and it goes away quickly but doesn't seem right. Is this something to do with the transmission. This happens as the car starts to move forward on slow/moderate acceleration. Thoughts?

Could be misaligned drive shafts or universals depending on your vehicle or whatever mode you are in. Front wheels run directly from your lateral engine. Simple solution is to have your dealer check it out to be sure. :thumbsup:

Our Latitude 4X4, 3.2, active drive I with tow package does the same thing, 600 miles on it now, noticed at around 100 miles. From a stop accelerating slowly at about 16-18mph, shudder/shimmy. The vehicle was ordered 3/17 and delivered 5/19, picked it up right off the truck. Took it to dealer yesterday and with service advisor was able to replicate the wobble multiple times. He contacted Chrysler and got a Star advisor/manager on it, they recommended and ordered new drive axles which I was told are on national backorder if that tells you anything. I hope that solves the problem, love the vehicle, just can't live with the wobble/shudder/shimmy. Turning hill start assist off did not do a thing. They also road force balanced the tires just to rule them out and they were fine.

wifes new Cherokee has same problem 1600 mi 4x4 latitude v-6 going to the dealer next week. I have looked all around the internet and it seems a lot of Cherokees are experiencing this. dealer said they have replaced axles on one jeep so far and customer is coming back cause they stated the new axles did not fix. my wife is pissed that she bought this thing. other than this problem we love the vehicle anyone have any updates or anything on a fix to this problem? I feel there is only going to be more KL with this problem as time goes on. dammit I knew better than to buy first year model. thanx

Went into the shop this morning to have both front axles replaced, they had been on national backorder. Nevertheless, I am cautiously optimistic that this will fix the wobble but not totally confident that it will, too many other people have had axles replaced multiple times without solving the problem. I too am very disappointed with this issue. We love the vehicle otherwise. We will not let this go on long without seeking a resolution which will involve a buy back. No where in the literature and or sales information did it address the fact that you'll love this vehicle if you don't mind the wobble in the front end. I was expecting to purchase a new vehicle with a smooth ride and fault free, but then again I am a long time Toyota loyalist. Current mileage 950.0

landlp it is funny you mention yota cause that's what the wife traded in 09 corolla with 80,000 trouble free miles, my mom has always driven yotas until they rust out (not because of mechanical failure). but I bought a ram 2 yrs ago and have not had any problems so we figured what the hey. I think this is gonna be a big black eye for the new kl if they do not get it resolved quickly for anyone thinking of buying a new kl I would think twice until they get this problem resolved. anyone else with this problem please chime in thanx

Well, mine didn't have the vibration issue, rather it decided to cook itself. The tech at the dealership plugged in his diagnostic laptop and said the clutches were all over the place on his investigative drive. I'm now waiting for a transmission replacement. This got me to thinking that the shudder issue many people are reporting could very well be related to the solenoids/clutches not operating as designed and causing a conflict in certain gears, ie. second, where most are experiencing the problem. It seems that this tranny isn't yet fully baked.:rolleyes:

Ours has had TSB 21-018-14 with adaptive learn procedure completed, both front axles replaced, wobble still there, took a couple hundred miles of driving to come back though, now more apparent in right turns and seems to occur more at transmission operating temperature, 150-165 degrees. Took it back in this morning, service manager is contacting engineers again. V6, tow, Latitude, active I, build 3/14, 1200 miles.

The second time I took it to the shop a regional Chrysler rep was brought brought into the picture, he provided three possible fixes, they were performed and nothing changed, wobble still there. He indicated that the rear transmission mount was the probable culprit, it was being re-engineered and manufacture ramping up, shipping in three to four weeks. My dealer contacted me with this info in addition to my options, bottom line, they bought me out and I in turn bought a Grand Cherokee from them. Problem solved.

When i bought mine the dealer filled it with 87 octane and it did the same thing so i went through the tank of 87 then filled it with 91 and the shutter or stumble went away and responds a lot better and the mpg seems to be around 2 better and this is mostly intown driving. My next tank will be 89 and will see if it runs better than the 87. Here in ca 91 is .18 gal more than 87 and .08 more than 89. Time will tell lol.

That is certainly a different twist, never thought about increasing the octane of fuel, I wonder if you are on to something. There are a lot of people experiencing the shudder on accel from a stop. We were bought out by the dealer and purchased a Grand Cherokee. We were not going to be able to rebuild confidence in the vehicle after the unsolved issue.

My wife even noticed the shudder was gone and also said it ran much better and she knows nothing about a car lol. One thing i found out that driving in sports mode it keeps the tranny from going into 6,7,8,9 and held it in the gears longer. Its like the srt8 5 speed as it changed the shift patterns a tad.

Just curious why people use 87 octane when the owners manual says 89 for the 3.2V6? Axels and transmission are rarely the cause of stumble on straight easy acceleration. The 3.2 is higher compression than the 3.6 Pentastar the dealers are used to dealing with. It most likely has some aggressive computer control to prevent spark knock. The stumble is probably the computer trying to deal with preignition under load caused by the lower octane fuel.

Just a thought.

In my hand book it calls for 87/89 and im on my 2nd tank of all 3 testing and the 1st test was the 89 was the best in mpg but the 91 was the best for gas pedal responds. I just finished my 2nd test with 87 anmd the mpg was no diff that the 1st time and now im on my 2nd test of 91 and it seems to be a lot better that the 1st test and im about half way through it then ill go to the 89 and finish up. Now when i go to the track with our group ill be using 98 octane with a lot of oxygen which is a 50/50 mix of 91 & vp109 to make as much hp as possible as were only running the 1/8 mile. Im hoping the higher compression of 10.7 will help.
