Cherokee voted least reliable.................

Consumer Reports Most and Least Reliable Small Crossovers

Second Least-Reliable Small Crossover: Jeep Cherokee
MSRP: $22,995 to $30,095
Invoice: $22,636 to $29,069
Fuel Economy: 22 City / 31 Highway

The second least-reliable small crossover or SUV, as rated by readers of Consumer Reports, is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

We're not terribly surprised to see the brand-new Cherokee on this list, as it is a completely new model for Jeep, and it's packed with lots of new technologies, a high-tech nine-speed automatic gearbox and plenty of electronic gadgets that allow it to go further off-road than any other SUV in its class.

If you don't have any need to venture too far off the beaten path, perhaps another, more reliable small utility vehicle would serve you better.

Re: Cherokee voted least reliable.................

This is old news. We are in to 2015 model year. My Cherokee is first rate with all the options and no problems with over 5000 miles on it.

Consumer Reports is out of code in my opinion. They are past their prime.
The Cherokee has been out for maybe 15 months. Consumer Report is reporting on maybe the first 6-7 months.
The reviews I have read basically revolve around the the rough shifting
Of the ZF 9 speed transmission. Most of that is the AL process inherent with this ZF 9 speed. I am sure the test cars are new and not broken in well.
Most of the issues with the shifting have been resolved with the TSB updates thru July.

Mine is a year old and runs and shifts great. No issues to date except a power seat repair.
Can't ask for much more.

Re: Cherokee voted least reliable.................

I do not totally rely on CR because their reliability data is usually from surveys and the most likely to respond... those with problems.
I think they go out of their way to put down Jeeps. They begrudgingly gave 2012 - 2013 GCs a recommendation but withdrew it when the 2014 model refresh had some issues.
They hate the Wrangler. Even in their "off road" test they put it down... but of course they took a Sahara model out with stock tires and not a Rubicon or switch to true ATs. They hate the wrangler for its less than "green" footprint so they can't stand it's sales and re-sale numbers... it completely baffles them.
The Cherokee is coming into its own.
I've owned Hondas and my parents love Toyotas and they've all had issues. If you only read CR you'd think those two companies walked on water.

Funny thing is the Cherokee was the number one selling Jeep in December. Apparently the public knows something that BS Reports (U Hum, I mean CR) doesn't know. My Cherokee was an 11/13/13 build and has been near perfect. I have mine on a lease but I intend to buy it out I have been so pleased with it. I think the problem is that CR is comparing Jeeps to grocery getters and mall crawlers. While a Jeep can do those things, but probably not as refined as a Toyota, I want to see a Prius go off roading. CR is comparing apples to oranges.

Re: Cherokee voted least reliable.................

Consumer Reports has always had a populist bent, but, over the last few years, it has moved its view and its efforts well to the left in the way it evaluates vehicles and other products. A green product is much more likely to receive a superior rating than a superior non-green one. They try to be objective, but they just can't help themselves sometimes. Jeep fits into that "can't help themselves" category in my opinion.

Costco is another example. They may not accept advertising, but Costco is favorably mentioned in article after article.

I stopped supporting CR when they took an active role in getting Obamacare passed. I wrote in objecting to their actions and received a rather scathing response.

Re: Cherokee voted least reliable.................

Well the issue of "green" is relative. Don't get me wrong, I hate that I have to get a V6 to get any kind of power and pissed I can't get a diesel. I'd buy a GC but that engine is a $4500 option! Seriously????

Compare Cherokee 4WD to CR-V 4WD here

Not that much different

Not old news, just came out 12-11-14.

Glad to hear that your Cherokee's only problem is that its visually challenged.
