Re: Consumer Reports Can't Recommend Cherokee, Calls It Half Baked

Consumer Reports has never liked vehicles that are good off-road. They think that SUV's should only be used by housewives for going to the grocery store and taking up two parking places.

Consumer reports has always hated American cars and loved Japanese cars. That's why I was so shocked when they actually recommended the 2011 Grand Cherokee. But they have no credibility with me because they rated the 5.7 Hemi with its multi-speed transmission high in the 3rd generation Grand Cherokee (WK) , but somehow the exact same setup was predicted to have low reliability in the new 4th generation Grand Cherokee. (WK2). Do they even read their own reviews?

More than likely Chrysler will not pay them for a good review. CR has went down hill for me, there reports are not public knowledge now they force you to by there service to get a report. that would lead me to believe that for a price they will write you a good report as long as your device/equipment/car/whatever is not total junk.

I love my 2014 Trailhawk! I'm glad I don't base my purchases on what CR thinks!

I really do not take much that CU says seriously.

Re: Consumer Reports Can't Recommend Cherokee, Calls It Half Baked

I read the JC report in CR and have to say that until their recommendations, they were motivating me to order the vehicle. They had some very complimentary things to say about the Limited and all their concerns were tied to the Latitude. Imagine my surprise when the summary turned totally negative, talked about a half baked car, etc. and all the accolades (quiet ride, luxurious interior, safety enhancements, the effort to introduce new technology into this segment, etc.) were suddenly forgotten .

I think that the transmission issues clouded their judgement on this one.

I watched MotorWeek yesterday and the Cherokee was selected as the Best Small Utility of the year. IMO it sure is, even with a few glitches.

CR will be CR. They mean less and less in todays world!
I stopped reading and caring about their reviews years ago.
I did find the review very through and offered a lot of objective observations. Subjective observations/statements like half baked etc. have no place in a review that I take seriously.

Consumer Reports has also been turning more and more toward a politically correct approach in its recommendations and actions. I think the board has been taken over by political activists pushing an agenda more than product quality.

Re: Consumer Reports Can't Recommend Cherokee, Calls It Half Baked

I agree with the negative comments on CR...they often write inexplicable things like when they repeatedly criticize sports cars for their harsh ride. As if they review vehicles in a total vacuum. However, in this case, I think they are right. There has been at least 1 and I believe 2 TSBs on the transmission. Mine has had the transmission completely replaced and it still shudders and shifts very rough from 2-3. I suspect the CR tester was similar to mine. I'm 2 shop visits away from LL conversation.
