Many here are exceeding the EPA ratings and are claiming its easier to do with the new WK2. Some vehicles (like my Murano) won't exceed the EPA rating easily. This may be because the CVT transmission gives an accurate EPA test cycle result. Most cars underachieve unless you try really hard.

We'll see when people start reporting the 9 speed real world results.

My primary interest is the highway number. I would like to know who, if anyone, is beating the EPA highway numbers.

According to the display we drove 95 percent highway and got 26 mpg with my wife's 2014 Grand Cherokee. After more city driving the display was reading 23.9. I filled up this morning and it was 22.3. I would say 4/10 of that tank was city driving so you judge for yourself.

I am not doubting your personal experience. However, fuelly.com tracks many owners experiences. Fuelly shows insignificant (in the tenths) differences between 2012, 2013, & 2014 V6 Grand Cherokees.

I'm on fuelly also. My screen name is the same as it is on here.

I believe that most drivers don't change their driving behavior and may even drive more aggressively in a vehicle with more acceleration.

The laws of physics apply. A 5000 lb vehicle without improved aerodynamics and rolling resistance requires the same energy as an older model. If the driver alters their driving to take advantage of the improved efficiency of the drive line, then improvements can be realized.

The only fair comparison is between two vehicles operated by the same driver who is driving close to the vehicles peak economy envelope (not driving hard like the average traffic flow).

Thank you for the information. I see your best average was 22 mpg with 75% highway. My original point was that eight gears did not seem to provide much fuel mileage improvement over five. I think the fuelly numbers provide strong evidence to support my contention.

I don't know what the 8 speed did for fuel economy but I know it made it so much better to drive we would have never been able to drive a 5 speed. I think with pure highway driving the mileage would have been a lot better. Especially if we were going 55 to 60 mph. The display reads a constant 28 MPG there.

Re: EPA ratings

In my experience you can't trust the over head displays to be accurate. On previous vehicles I have owned that had it, the average they displayed was normally high. The most accurate messurement is to hand calculate the milage at the time of fill up.

I know, I keep track of what the display reads at the time of fill up. It is every log I have on fuelly.
