Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

The problem I have with this is it isn't specific enough. There is no clutch in the ptu (transfer case) so I am assuming the code refers to the rear drive module. There is a clutch in this but it is a seperate system from the rest of the unit. The fill plug the tech checked is for the gearset. If the tech didn't notice any leaking fluid I would guess it wasnt actually low, because theu don't get filled to the bottom of the fill plug like most axles. The metallic film is worrying though, but there is no temp sensor in the gearset cavity, only for the clutch.

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

So after 5 days of trying to replicate my complaint regarding the EVIC warning "4WD Unavailable Transmission Overheated" that came up on an intermittent/regular basis except in "sport" mode, the dealer finally "got a code". Their techs actually drove the car home for a few days. (not thrilled about that). They were still boggled and called Chrysler Engineering. Chrysler is now sending a replacement rear differential unit for my vehicle. We will see how long that takes and also whether it actually solves the problem. I will post the results as stated on the final invoice when I receive it. I have owned the car for 3 weeks now. The dealer has had it for the last week. During the first 2 weeks, we drove it with trepidation due to the warnings. Not a positive experience for a new vehicle owner. (2014 Cherokee Limited Granite Crystal, V6, Tow, Pano, 9 speaker with sub etc. 496 km or 306 miles on the vehicle) Wonder what I could get if I traded it in

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

IanMac, we got consistent answers. I sent the service manager and note today and got the following reply:

Quote:
We are awaiting a rear differential unit for your vehicle.
I talked with engineering personally and I will check on availability on Friday.
Code pertains to rear drive unit, not transmission so not that involved as far as replacement.
Now we have two of us who will be monitoring the situation after it is changed. I hope that resolves the matter. We are going to drive out to the Four Corners and Nevada this fall and I'd hate to be sitting in a hotel waiting for a fix.

"4WD not available transmission overheated"

I hate when software throws confusing error msgs.

Not transmission. Rear Drive Module as @loveracing1988 assumed.

I have to ask where he has been for the past two months or so since I first reported the problem?

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

I wonder if we'll see the cost of this replacement?

In 2009 GM had replace the PIG in my 2007 Kodiak based motorhome and the cost was $3300. Not quite the same size but I'd imagine the entire rear differential isn't cheap.

RDM $4500.00 cad.
PTU $3800.00 cad.

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

May I ask what 4x4 systems the people are having issues with? As in 1 speeds or 2 speeds?

temp sensor is in RDM and not serviced separately. the one I replaced had very similar symptoms.

Might I ask how long it took to do the replacement? I'm kind of visualizing disconnection of the drive shaft, axles on both sides, pull out the RDM put in a new one. Am I even close?
