Thanks. I'll probably wait while they do it and browse with my iPad.

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

The differential and axle (I assume one half shaft) were replaced today. Now comes the waiting and watching for the dreaded message. Hopefully the problem has been solved.

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

Well, so far so good. What we are pleased with is that it seem to drive a lot better. Shifts are smoother, everything seems to feel better.

MPG around town has gone up a bit as well. On current tank - all local driving - we are at 22.4 mpg - which is pretty good IMO. On next fill will check actual to the computer as it can be "off" by more than a bit (and of course there is fill consistency as well).

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

Just an update. No further warning messages so the fix worked. Will be Las Vegas and Phoenix with the jeep in the next two weeks with temps about 95 or more so that will be the final test.

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

Another update. Yesterday we ran the transmission temp up to 196, higher than it has ever been. Also ran the coolant temp to 228.

Circumstances. 19 mile trip up the mountain to Pikes Peak. Transmission ran fine.

Today we travelled from Colorado Springs to Green River UT via Aspen going over the Independence Pass and Continental Divide at 12,000 ft. on Hwy 82. Transmission got to 170 and coolant just a bit over 200.

Glad to hear everything is going well. Thanks for the updates.

So I take it you left the moho behind this time?

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

Just had this message show up three times today. The TH is 6 weeks less than a year old and has ~6800 miles on the clock. Other than the message, the TH ran perfect. I have an appointment on Tuesday to see what's up. When I talked to the dealer, they had not seen the message before, so we'll see what happens. Whatever it is, I was told that the problem would be taken care of, so I am not too concerned at this point.

I post whatever they find...

Re: EVIC message - 4WD not available transmission overheated

Well, I had the TH looked at a few weeks ago and was told the following:

There was an error code retrieved from the computer (1477-4b) and it showed that the trans case clutch had an over temp condition. The code was cleared and then they performed TSB RTT 14-040 and said that they also flashed the TCM. The car was driven and no more codes appeared.

The TCM flash was supposed to lessen the chances of the over temp showing up again. When I drove the car home after picking it up from the dealer, I could no longer feel the 2-3 shift. Even though the trans was shifting pretty smooth before the flash, it was even better today.

They said to keep driving it normally and if the code shows up again, bring it back.

Yes. Could not afford the time as we are limited as to the time we can spend in the US. IRS says 182 days physically present in the US in a calendar year. Homeland Security says 180 days (6 months at 30 days a month) and that applies to a rolling 365 day year. That is, every day you have to look back 365 days and if you exceed 180 days in the US you can have the boom lowered and they can say stay out for as much as five years. Yet, all we do is spend money when in the US. Also, when we returned home for Christmas this past December we had to make sure we stayed over 30 days or the time would be counted as if we didn't even leave the US. Sure hope Congress feels like passing the JOLT bill one day soon.

Interesting. Never heard those details before.

Doesn't Canada's health care system also come into play regarding length of stay in US?
