btw it is in the owners manual how to get to on position without starting.
Thanks. I couldn't find that info anywhere in the Owners' Manual. Jeep Customer Support referred me to page 12 which doesn't seem to have anything to do with that.

I got an update from Jeep:
"The vehicle has four operating positions; in order to start the vehicle the system would need to be in the ON/RUN position and you would press the brake pedal and START/STOP button to start the vehicle. However, the vehicle can be in the ON/RUN position without starting if you do not press the brake when switching to the ON/RUN position."
I did find these 'hints' in the Owner Manual 6th Ed:
pp. 32: " The engine can be started two consecutive times with the RKE transmitter. However, the ignition must be cycled by pushing the START/STOP button twice (or the ignition switch must be cycled to the ON/RUN position) before you can repeat the start sequence for a third cycle."

pp. 361: "1. Without pressing the brake pedal, press the ENGINE
START/STOP button and cycle the ignition to the
ON/RUN position"
Not too clear, but I think they're saying to press the Start/Stop button only once. Whether it's 1 or 2 presses, guess I'll find out when my TH shows up in a few wks.

Considering that the Start/Stop button is on all Limiteds, and it's likely way more than half the Latitudes and most Trailhawks are optioned with Comfort/Conv Group, that Jeep would address the Start/Stop button in the Flat-Tow-Neutral procedure.

Re: Flat towing behind an RV

@ldsoles1066

Here's something I found in the User Guide, 5th Ed:
pp 17: "NOTE:
The following functions are with the driver’s foot OFF the Brake Pedal (Transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL Position).
Starting With The Ignition Switch In The OFF Position:
• Press the ENGINE START/STOP button once to change the ignition switch to the ACC position.
• Press the ENGINE START/STOP button a second time to change the ignition switch to the ON/RUN position.
• Press the ENGINE START/STOP button a third time to return the ignition switch to the OFF position."

This is may be where you saw it.

Thanks again for the tip. It's all becoming clearer. It'll help a lot when I have the TH and can try these things instead of just reading about them.

That is what I remember. Makes me feel better. I knew I saw it written out in detail but could not find out where.

Me too. I have put a spring clamp on mine to make sure it stays on. Just completed a trip that was 300 miles in each direction and it towed GREAT. Happy to be rid of the Escape and the transmission failure that hung over our head for over 3 years.

Re: Flat towing behind an RV

BTW, we keep a photocopy of pages 541 to 546 of the Operators Manual in the glove box of the Jeep. They describe the step by step process of going into and out of neutral in the transfer case.

ONE WARNING. We connect BEFORE we put the TC in Neutral and we DON'T use the electric park brake. When we were leaving the campground in Michigan my son stood with my wife to watch the arms of the tow bar lock as I moved forward. Damned if I didn't start dragging the Jeep as the electric park brake was on. I had NOT put it on. Somehow in turning off so many features in the settings I'd engaged the EPB. That means that it can go on automatically when shifting to PARK. I've turned it off and when we tow we will now look to make sure it is OFF. When we got home we disconnected from the MH and I told my wife I'd back up the Jeep before she drove it into our cul-de-sac. EPB was on again - so now it is OFF and will remain OFF forever. Good thing my son screamed STOP immediately. Dear Wife would not have realized what was happening.

Other things - we had 3 bikes on the back of the Jeep. Had trouble getting out of our garage when we left as the backup alarm constantly sounds and it automatically brakes sensing a collision. Finding all the features that have to be turned off is a real PITA. What I'm going to do is go through every screen in detail, take photos of each screen with my iPad and then print them and keep them with the instructions for flat towing.

Another feature to turn off if you are using a Brake Buddy is easy exit so that the seat doesn't move every time the ignition is turned on and off. We found a single sheet of plywood fits nicely in front of the seat when it is moved forward and the BB fits very well - except when the seat automatically moves backward unless the feature is turned off.

As I noted in an earlier post, I'm very happy with the way the Jeep tows. So nice to be back to a transfer case.

What'd you do to keep EPB off forever?

Re: Flat towing behind an RV

I turned it off in the settings so forever means "unless someone turns it back on" and that will be by accident because I certainly don't want it on at any time. Whenever we connect to the MH I will certainly look down at the light on the EPB to make sure it isn't on.

Re: Flat towing behind an RV

Where did you guys buy your Blue Ox base plates from? Did you order from a retail brick and mortar place like General RV and pick them up there, or an on-line retailer like eTrailer and have them shipped? Did you find it less expensive one way or another? Thanks.
