NOTE:
In the event of a power malfunction to the
liftgate, an emergency liftgate latch release
can be used to open the liftgate. The
emergency liftgate latch release can be
accessed through a snap-in cover located
on the liftgate trim panel.

Standing there with the Tow truck driver I was looking in the manual and found nothing in the appendix about the lift gate. I missed it apparently, it's in there somewhere. I will have to make sure I know how to do this in the future.

They say it is the battery. They called my wife and said it's ready to be picked up, since they didn't ask her what she wanted them to do and told here it was ready to be picked up I guess the battery is covered. I would have thought once cranked the charging system would keep it running. Must have been putting quite a load on the system. I am going to go pick it up in a bit.

These batteries are supposed to have a pretty good life span, but some don't. When I had my MDX they checked the battery with a rather sophisticated thing each time you went in. If the first check came up a certain way they did a second test that took some time. I guess charging and load testing. Although I was in for something else, and had no problem with the battery, they changed it when the vehicle was only 1.5 years old.

I hope that this truly is the extent of your issue.

Picked it up and no charge covered by warranty. I just hope it is awhile before it strands my wife again.

A similar thing just happened to my wife, it sounds like. She was on the freeway when she lost throttle power and has a multitude of warning lights illuminate something like "throttle control failure." She had all kinds of problems getting over to the shoulder with no power, but eventually was able to get to a safe spot. About a half hour later she was able to restart the car. It was a 2 hour wait for a tow truck here in Los Angeles, so she's currently driving the car to our local dealership via side streets in case it happens again.

It sounds like the dealer tried to give the car back without solving anything but fortunately replicated the problem just before that happened. I'm very much hoping not to endure multiple trips to the dealership to get this fixed - fingers are crossed...

Kind of scary to think this type of thing happening on a freeway. Luckily she didn't get hurt, but losing power on a freeway and having to get out of traffic is a every dangerous situation.

IN my wife's case she was on a fairly busy road and taking off from a red light to make a left turn. If she had been in a situation where she was making a turn with oncoming traffic it could have gotten hairy.

Re: Had to have our 2014 towed in yesterday

The local dealer took 2 days to "fix" my issue last week. They said a ground wire had come loose and they reattached it. Not surprisingly, they were unable to reproduce the issue when they test drove it around.

Unfortunately my wife was driving home at 10:30pm last night and the exact same issue happened again. Again she was on a freeway when a Throttle Control error light appeared and she completely lost the ability to use her throttle. This is about as dangerous an issue as there is, save loss of brakes or steering. Obviously hard to know for sure, but it appears the issue manifests when accelerating at moderate speed (50+ mph). Not enough data to know for sure, but that's when we've seen it.

CarlsDad, do you happen to have more info on how your issue was eventually resolved?

They said they replaced the valve body and a wiring harness. Also flashed three or four modules. Seems to have fixed it, hasn't happened again. When I get home tonight I can look at the repair order and perhaps give more detail.

I will also speak to my wife and ask her to describe exactly what happened again.

Here in GA on a safety issue like that you could initiate a lemon Law action and give them one more time try to fix it and then they would have to take it back. I think on something like that they only get one or two tries. If that happens under the right circumstance it could be very dangerous.

Thanks for the response - I did read your previous posts and saw the valve body/ wiring harness, so I didn't mean to make you repeat yourself. I would definitely be interested to know whether the service record gives any more detail that might be helpful to my own techs, who frankly do not instill a lot of confidence.

I have absolutely started to look into the lemon law. I'd be happy to return the car to the manufacturer at this point. It's just too dangerous an issue, as you mentioned.

Re: Had to have our 2014 towed in yesterday

Fingers crossed but it's been a week or so since taking back the Cherokee and have not experienced another throttle failure. The "electronic throttle body" was replaced, I believe.

Warranty is getting close to the end here so hopefully any more failures happen now

How about opening the lift gate without power. I tried to find out how to do that with the manual and could not.[/QUOTE]

Just grab a hold of the handle and pull it like it doesn't have a power open and it will open. Or are you saying unlock it?
