Hard Shifting

So I have a brand new 2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude and I find that first to second shit is hard. Anyone else have this problem and is there a fix.

Re: Hard Shifting

Its the AL (adaptive Learn) process at work.
Could last couple hundred miles to couple thousand miles.
Your driving habits are what determines how long.
There have been several TSB's that updated the transmission software over the last year. That improved the logarithms in the software to make it a faster/and more adaptable.
You will be fine. Just watch that break in of that new Cherokee.

Re: Hard Shifting

Yeah, I kinda noticed a little bit of that at first too, but after 1,000km she's very smooth now.

As Jeepster has recommended, I was real gentle with the first 500km and all good now; the KL performs beautifully

Re: Hard Shifting

I took the wife's Trailhawk in for an oil change and they said there was a software update for shifting problems. They performed the update and then drove the car for about an hour. Now we have rough shifting. We weren't having any issues before the update. She is also getting about 5mpg less. Very frustrating.

You get to do the adaptive learning processes again for a few hundred miles.

Re: Hard Shifting

If you have the 3.2 motor and 4 wh drive put it in sports mode and see if the hard shifting still does it.

That was one of the reasons my dealer did not want to do the TSBs on mine last spring. Mine was shifting just fine. The problem you had was there was probably a code they pulled from an issue like shifting during the AL that cleared up. You get the joy of going through it all again.
MPG does improve when AL completes. It did for me. Colder weather will impact that mpg also, that is lower it.

Re: Hard Shifting

Don't fix it if it aint broke. I've got 800km on mine now (3.2L Trailhawk). When I first got it I notice the trans was shifting very fast and flaring up a bit between shifts. Now the shifts have firmed up and it holds the gear a bit longer. Seems like it should be now. Mileage (or kilometerage) was around 15L/100km combined. I got it as low as 10L/100km combined. It's up to 12 again but I blame that on the snow.

Got its first big test yesterday. Base level wheel and 4 Blizzak tires and two feet of snow on the road. 4WD Low and it blow right through it. Only problem I have now is the wheels are full of snow and ice so on the highway I'm getting the magic fingers vibrating bed treatment.

Re: Hard Shifting

Most people who are getting the latest flash say that they are pretty happy with it now.

Re: Hard Shifting

Please be very careful about jumping on the Flash/TSB bandwagon. Most of these flashes are causing more problems than they are fixing and there is no way of going back except for replacing the transmission.

Re: Hard Shifting

Mine took almost 5000 miles before the harsh 2-3 almost disappeared. Now, it is about 95% perfect, with an occasional jerk once in a while. The dealer insisted that I put more miles on it before attempting the TSB. I am glad I waited...
