So YES - there are still issues.
Apparently the 9 speed transmission is also a rocket engine.

CHECK THIS OUT.....

This is an INTER-ACTIVE webpage below....... CLICK PLAY in the top left corner.... the interactive controls are at the BOTTOM.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...P_Nomogram.svg

Quote:
This interactive nomogram is a real geometric calculator exactly representing the rotational speeds of the transmission's 3x4 = 12 internal shafts for each of its 9 ratios (+ reverse), grouped according to their 5 permanent coupling on 4 joint ordinates and 3 independent ordinates. These ordinates are positioned on the abscissa in strict accordance with the proportions of the sun gears' teeth numbers relative to those of their rings. Consequently, the output ratios on the 6th ordinate (carrier of the fourth planetary gearset) follows closely those of the actual transmission. This advantageous geometric construction sets us free from Willis' famous and tedious formula, because all calculations are exclusively determined by lengths ratios, respectively teeth numbers on the abscissa for the 4 epicyclic ratios, and of rotational speeds on the 6th ordinate for the 10 gear ratios.
Usage:
Select the gear with the corresponding right button.
(Restore all gears with All button)
Adjust the 4 planetary gearsets dimensions with 4 bottom sliders.
(Reset to factory settings with Rst button)
Legend:
A : Dog Clutch (couples r1+s2 with input shaft)
B : Clutch (couples s1 with input shaft)
C : Brake (blocks s1 sun gear)
D : Brake (blocks r2 ring gear)
E : Clutch (couples c3+r4 with input shaft)
F : Dog Brake (blocks s3+s4 sun gears)

I had 16,000 on my 2014 trailhawk when it was flashed and a week later when they reflashed it and jeep said put in a new convertor and i new that wasnt going to help and so did the mehanic so that was it as i told the owner i was going lemon law and thats when he gave me a great deal on the 2015. At about 5000 mile i took it to the track to test the shifting, launching and to see just how it would shift with some WOT. It was just fine and i told the dealer DO NOT FLASH THE TRANNY unless you get my permission.

They said they cannot roll back the software to the version we originally had. It's still not perfect, the gears slip a bit at low speed. Going to try another dealer soon.
Time for the dealer to put in a NEW 2016 built transmission if software will not fix it.

If you want one get one. I would not be concerned at this point.
The thing about forums is that issues will be front and center but skewed vastly toward the negative. The simple reason is human nature.
People tend to complain rather than compliment. That's just the way it is.
Forums are a great source of information but you just need to keep in in context.

Now in my case I have a 2014 Limited with no transmission issues and only one update to date. I love it.
My sister has a 2015 Limited with no issues to date and she loves it.
That's just the way it is...................

Going to a new dealer soon, going to have them (hopefully) try the updates that Desert Hiker mentioned, with any luck that'll be the end of our issues.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

At 5,050 miles, I find the transmission shifting very smoothly-a definite improvement from 0 miles.
With the 4-banger motor, the tranny does a lot of shifting. Anything less than Kansas flat will cause a downshift as you climb a hill, but the shifts are barely perceptible unless you are watching the tachometer.
The Cherokee transmission problems appear to be more of a software issue than a hardware/physical/longevity problem.
Just my 2 cents.

The updates that are for your Cherokee are the ones assigned to your VIN by FCA.
The updates that one Cherokee gets are not necessarily the one(s) your Cherokee should/will get even if they fall under a TSB.
If your specific issue is covered by a TSB the dealer may do it if approved by FCA. The problem is applying wrong TSBs (updates for a situation) can make the situation worse. Once applied there is no going back.

NO.......................

The only issue with pulling a trailer is simple: Hopefully the trailer break procedures were followed to the letter. That can have an impact on the transmission if not followed. Especially if pulling a medium to heavy trailer.
In fact the trailer break in routine is tougher than the initial break in procedures for the Cherokee its self.

Hmmmm. There were no open TSBs yet to be applied to my 2014 Trailhawk....only my complaints to resolve. I have no idea how the service dealer decided on the 9 modules to update but identified the problem as "failed software updates" and from there they listed 9 modules reflashed. Worked a charm.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

Updates are applied based on customer complaint. Read the TSB's - it's written in black and white. Yes, there could be some over ride from FCA but not typically.

This tranny thing is across any Cherokee with the 9 speed but it all depends how one drives. Some might be happy with the tranny shifting whereas other are not.

Many are not. Look at the 2015 KL threads - they are changing out trannys in the 2015s!

Multiple years, multiple problems.

Funny thing is there are other companies using the same tranny - no issues.

It's all about the software. Hence the many TSB's that relate to software.
