Re: 9 Speed Recall

This isn't really a recall. More of a software update...the new tranny's are supposed to be new hardware...so I don't get it????

NHTSA calls it a recall. I guess you don't get it.

Another thing about Safehold, the engine can't be turned off if the shifter is Not in park. It will not shut off if the shifter is in neutral either.

Where are you getting your information?

Accord to NHTSA:

"REMEDY:
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will update the transmission software to prevent the transmission from shifting into neutral due to a faulty crimp, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on August 26, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55."

This is a bit strange. The problem per the NHTSA recall: "may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness"....sounds like a hardware problem. Yet, it's fixed by a software update to stop erroneous shifts to neutral. Interesting software coverup of a hardware problem left in place. Hmmmmm.

When the Boeing 787s first hit the air they were catching fire. It was resolved with software. I guess ... just a guess ... if the harness was sending an erroneous signal, they could write software to ignore it. I totally gave up trying to figure cars out about 6 years ago.

The B737 software change better managed the charging rate (to control heat buildup) and monitored battery temps....so that I understand.

Still mystified by a Jeep software fix for a bad crimp....amazing.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

I just had a new tranny put in. It's new hardware. The shifting is super smooth. The trans tech explained they changed the hardware due to the many issues and that I would be surprised at the smoothness. It is totally different than what I had in there.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

Quick update - With the new tranny - I'm now downshifting to 2nd gear!!! Very smooth shifting, but I'll know more when I get into traffic over the coming weekend. That condition really highlights the issues.

But so far - so good. Finally!

My 15 always down shifted to 2nd gear and wont downshift to 1st until I stop and wait about 2 min or I can manually put it into 1st as soon as I stop. Now my 14 down shifted to 1st gear at about 2 mph and when I got it flashed because of the C clip problem is when it started down shifting no lower than 3rd gear and had to wait about 5 seconds after I stopped to get it to shift to 1st. If I did a stop and go it would start out in 3rd gear and after about 2 seconds it would start out in 2nd gear. I have 24,000 on the 15 and its been great so far.
