If I did a stop and go it would start out in 3rd gear and after about 2 seconds it would start out in 2nd gear. I have 24,000 on the 15 and its been great so far.
Yep!! My 14 is like your 15 now. I have a 2016 tranny in mine which I'll bet is what they started putting into the newbies. My does exactly as described. My old 14 tranny never went into 2nd, as you described too! So far so good. I'll be in a massive traffic situation on Friday...the best test.

Also I don't have that slip and jerk issue anymore. The 14 tranny would slip and then jerk when coming to an almost complete stop and then quickly accelerating as when one is in a traffic situation.

I'm loving my Jeep - so far - Again!!!

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

I have a 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk that has been flawless over 18 mos. Transmission has not been an issue, but dealer did the flash updates last fall, and now it revs more before shifting and mileage dropped 2+ MPG! Anyone else experience this with the reflash? Bought the Cherokee after several Grand Cherokees thinking the V6 would be better on gas mileage, which it was before all the relashes, but now I'm not happy!

Maybe the dealer did not do the flash correctly and made things worse, which is possible according to some of the transmission TSBs. Might be worth while to find another dealer or complain to the dealer that did the flash. I've had a number of transmission flashes since my 2015 has the c-clutch snap ring problem and my mileage has always been good as compared to others reporting satisfactory mpg. And other than the loss of 2nd gear while coming to a stop, shifting remains excellent for a 9-speed.

On my 2014 Cherokee Limited 3.2w/ AD2 and Tow. I have had only one TCM/PCM flash. That was a May 2014 flash I got on May 2015. I had a mpg issue for awhile after that flash. I lost 8th gear after that flash and that had a huge impact on my highway mpg. It also impacted some other gearing a bit but it was the HWY mpg that I noticed. Normal was 31-33 after that flash I struggled to do 29+. It took 800 miles for 8th to return. In fact by 1k miles it was using 8th as low as 57mph. The issue for me with 8th was the same as when the Cherokee was new. It took almost 3k to start using 8th.
The ZF uses AL (adaptive learn) to adjust to your driving. My 2014 was primitive at the time with AL.

Now with the mention of higher rpms before shifting may indicate a little AL is going on. Its still figuring out the shift points. Since 2015's there has been software for eliminating most of the AL that the dealer can run in addition to the update software. If the issue does not clear up or start getting better in say 800 mile I would return to the dealer and explain the issue.
As Array explained the dealer may have very well missed a step in the update process. But see if it does start getting better first.

Thanks. Not sure how many miles since the reflash, so will take your advice and just keep driving to see if it improves. I'm curious how you knew about 8th gear? Is there a way to tell what gear it's in?

While you are driving move the shifter over to the left. Your current gear will show. But be careful you do not move it up or down while its to the left, as that will set the minimum or maximum gear you want to use.
So move it over to the left and it will display the gear the ZF is using and then put it back to the right.
As far as setting the gears as an example: I tow and sometimes depending on the load I want to keep it in 7th and not let it go into 8th which might labor the engine. Its in your owners manual or the DVD that came with it.
Have fun

2014 Cherokee Limited, was having issues starting from a dead stop. as you accelerate there was a pause, then jerk forward. took back to Dealer for a couple recalls. Told Dealer about it. They claim to have re-flashed computer. It worked. Was still under warranty. so far so good.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

Thanks. Have not had that problem. Always starts up correctly. I guess I need more miles as recently on the highway it has started getting all the way to 8th gear. Previously never got out of 7th! Will give it until the spring to see if it's any better.

That is a good sign. Depending on speed you might start seeing it as low as 57-58 mph. Your mpg will start climbing now.
Actually it took me 3000 miles initially when new. After a TCM flash 2 years ago it took 1000 miles after that to start using 8th again. So obviously there is still AL at work. Let us know how your mpg improves.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

After every reflash, it ALWAYS to a few days for 8th gear to return.
FYI...I've owned two latitudes 14-15..both had some issues (long story )...I now have a 16 Trailhawk...it cannot be compared to the other vehicles...shifts completely different (never had any issues..have about 6k and perfect!!)...
So I would say they finally figured out this transmission!! Loving it so far
