Does anyone have a sense of whether the tranny problem is better or worse for the Trailhawk? And whether pulling a boat aggravates the problem?

I hope you have a v6 in your trailhawk for pulling that boat.

I don't have a Trailhawk yet but was just wondering if the tranny in the Trailhawk, which has the low range and other complexities, was more prone to problems than the non-Trailhawk tranny. And, yes, I will definitely have the v6.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

I spoke with a person who works in the shop at our Jeep dealership and he said that since the 2014s came out, he has only seen two transmissions go bad. I don't know how many Cherokees they have sold since the 2014 model came out but they have over 20 Cherokees on their lot right now. He said the only real complaint about the tranny has been that folks aren't used to being in 3rd gear by the time you hit 20mph. I don't know why that should be an issue but maybe some folks don't like it. I have dealt with this dealer several years ago when wife had a Suzuki Verona and have always found them honest.

Here is a 2016 thread with a hundred posts...tell your mechanic to open his eyes
Look in that same forum under transmission and there are 1000 plus threads...I had a 15 trailhawk and I loved it till the tranny went..good luck

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

I have a MY15 3.2l V6 Cherokee with over 16,000km. Never had any transmission issues and after 15 months of ownership it still drives beautifully.

I feel for those at JeepGarage that have had transmission issues with the KL, I really do. But I wonder what percentage of owners (worldwide) that have had zero transmission issues.

Comparatively, over 14 months ago I asked the question if the DPF Issue was Fixed in the MY14 WK2 (Grand Cherokee), and while many had experienced issues, there were plenty of people that had not. Since then it appears that the DPF problem with the WK2 has been resolved.

But I totally agree with folks that these issues, of any kind, should not be happening. This is not good enough from a major Brand such as Jeep. I'm hoping, as with many others, that Jeep's Quality Control and after sales service is on the improve.

At this point in time, with our positive experience with our current Cherokee, my next vehicle will be a Jeep also; probably a Grand Cherokee.

Re: Has the 9 Speed Transmission Issue(s) Been Resolved.....?

My wife has a 2014 cherokee...transmission issues ever since they updated the software (for a recall). It was perfect before that. The day after the update, the car basically locked up on her on the highway. Since then the dealer has updated the software 3 more times, changed the valve body in the transmission and fixed some "wiring issues". They said they cannot roll back the software to the version we originally had. It's still not perfect, the gears slip a bit at low speed. Going to try another dealer soon.
