This is comical.

You can't broaden your base without change. I can only guess that this is what Jeep is trying to do. When the 2014 GC pictures showed up, folks complained it looked too much like a cheaper Jeep model. I didn't notice because I never followed the Jeep line.

Now, they took a cheaper model and went in a whole new direction, so it doesn't look like other Jeep models.

I guess we could just go back to that 1941 model that made the brand a household name, and paint them all khaki. At least we'd have a flipper glass, even if it was in front.

IDK, I'll reserve judgment at this point till I see interior shots and info on the 4X4 system as well as MPG numbers.

Re: Heres the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Is this all a hoax?

Exhibit A

vs Exhibit B

In the second picture the black "cherokee" has molding that runs near the top of the front fender. In the released JEEP picture, there is no such thing.

Maybe the middle headlight was a joke, and was supposed to simulate the XJ square headlight being brought back from the "real cherokee" days...maybe it'll say "since 1984" on it

I only dream that this is a joke/ hoax and the black "cherokee" doesn't just have a different trim level on it that brings the molding up a bit

p.s the back end is hideous too.

...And the black cherokee has flush mounted top light, the JEEP official picture looks like it's sunk in a bit. Black cherokee top light doesn't have any orange part to it, JEEP pic does. But we've seen JEEP use black tape before (my WK2 peeps). I'm just trying to come up with more hopes that they didn't $%#@ the Cherokee.

This might also stir up real JEEP fans , just like adding square headlights to a Wrangler

I'm not that much of a purist... There needs to be a happy medium. Even the Chinese folk are disgusted with the new Cherokee.

Not good.

Re: Heres the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

The backend is survivable... in fact the car overall isn't terrible... it's that awful headlight arrangement and the bent over slots. It looks like a 6 eyed broken nose anime cartoon character...

Move those 'eyebrows" down to the other lights... and move the slots down so the top stops at the bend... voila... whole new appearance.

That's funny... I saw a pic from one of these websites indicating the redesigned Liberty/Cherokee has a higher molding line.

But yeah. I can see Jeep trying to connect the old with the new through emotional heritage connections, as opposed through utilitarian design. How else will they transition the brand. It doesn't mean I'll play in their sandbox.

I can still buy a new vibrating Toyota 4Runner.

Ahhh, the agony of defeat ...

Hoax part II

This rendered picture has all the characteristics of the black cherokee (exhibit b); moulding that rises, no orange in the headlight, flush mounted top lights.

Re: Heres the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

The Cherokee will never be the Cherokee of old...they came out with a 4 door Wrangler with a hardtop option to fulfill that need. Now you've got (arguably) something better than an XJ...you've got a 4 door Wrangler. Now you need a more streetable mid-level, small SUV to compete in a market FULL of things like the Highlander and CR-V, Escape, etc. This might very well be the answer. Honestly, I think it's better looking than the first gen Liberty.

Unfortunately, they will cross a lot of XJ fans with this. XJ fans just need to realize that the real replacement for them is the 4 door JK, and not the newly labeled "Cherokee".

Right on...this vehicle was designed to compete in the CUV class [CRX, RAV4, Equinox, Escape, Santa Fe, Terrain, Forester etc.] which has over 1 million sales per year and helps manufacturers meet Obama's environmental wacko CAFE standards.

True hardcore Cherokee fans have the four door Wrangler Unlimited and the
base Laredo GC to choose from.

Milous is the man but I'm surprised that he does't know this.
