from those pics i say FAIL. but the interior shots actually look pretty good i think. just to much plastic trim and up high, as well as the messed up hood/grill combo lol.
I don't think there are words to describe just how badly they've screwed up here.
I mean, I guess kudos for trying something different, but they really should have put that out there as a concept first. That way they could see the universally negative reactions, and fix it before requiring a costly and quick refresh/fix. I bet that front end changes before 3 model years.
They need to not slant the grille back and fix the headlights. Just slap the new Compass front end on it really.
This is the ugliest vehicle I have ever laid eyes on. It looks worse than the Pontiac Aztek. What on earth were they thinking? How did this get past focus groups?
I haven't seen headlights like that since the Wagon Queen Family Truckster.
Edit: The Chrysler Twitter feed says "More than any other vehicle, Jeep SUVs are more than exterior looks." If that isn't damage control, I don't know what is.

They must have brainwashed you when you went to visit them at Jeep, lol.
The front end is hideous. Needs normal lights and to not have a kinked grille. The front of the Compass is much nicer looking. This looks like a Nissan Juke fornicated with a GC and had some twisted malformed offspring.
Outside of that, it's nice. Nothing that can't be fixed by an emergency redesign and launch delay.
nope...Im just more open minded and realize it may not be for me...but it will be for MANY others. Its a world class SUV....with world class capability.
I think it's a sharp looking design. It's different, so it might take time for some to get used to.
It's about time an suv/crossover doesn't look the same as every other one on the road.
Back in the early 70's GM came out with the rectangular headlights. My '74 Caprice had 2 on each side, and they were side by side. Everybody said it must have been designed in China. So, 40 years later a Jeep is being called Asian because of its design. History does repeat itself ... but that's OK.
I think the new Cherokee is an atrocity. The 2013 JGC is the last decent-looking SUV out there that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, even though the JGC has been going downhill since the 2005-2010 WK, imho.
It might just take some time to get over it but I just can't see past the headlights.
Then again I wasn't a fan of the WJ when it came out because it was such a drastic change from the ZJ but I wound up buying one. I hated the KJ when it first came out but I wound up buying one when the XJ shit the bed. I wasn't even a fan of the WK2 at first, now it would be the next vehicle I buy.
The Cherokee is a replacement for the Liberty, and a majority of Liberty buyers were women. The new Cherokee is clearly aimed at women, and it will be successful. It is not being marketed to most of the guys hanging out in the WK2 forum.

I showed it to my gf, and she agreed, it's hideous. My friends' wives all agreed, it's hideous.
People can talk about designed for women and open mindedness all they want, this is just a poor design that should not have made it this far. Whoever is the manager for that product needs to pull the plug, and fix the front end, even if it delays it coming to market. They've already made fools of themselves with these pictures coming out, it's time to do damage control and fix the mistake.
