HID Light Issues 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited

I have read a few posts about HID issues on this site.
But I am wondering whether there is a major and underlying/inherent issue with the HID OEM setup in the 2015 Cherokees?

The light output is extremely poor and the light throw/distance is extremely poor. Doesn't matter if it's high or low beam. It';s hard to tell the difference!

Many thanks for any information on this most annoying problem.
Kind Regards
Peter

I've got the OEM HID Lights and I don't see the issues you mentioned. Lighting is good and you can definitely tell when the hi-beams are on.

Re: HID Light Issues 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited

I have the '15 Limited with OEM HIDs. What I found was that the lights were aimed *waaay* too high. With low-beams people were constantly flashing me, and with high-beams I noticed planes circling to land on me (okay, I kid, but you get the idea). After a couple of iterations I finally found the sweet spot for the lows where I get the distance I want, but virtually no flashing from oncoming. I still think the highs are too high though (I can see the tops of trees down the road). But I can still see a hell of a difference between low & high.

Before going further into it, I'd check aiming (do it yourself, don't get a dealer to do it). Headlight-aiming is a good skill to learn anyway.

If that doesn't help, maybe find a local with the same lights and try a comparison. Maybe there's something "funny" with yours (ie. improperly installed bulbs).

Brad.

OK. What I found with this issue is... The globes themselves are able to be fitted incorrectly and NOT properly seated in the housing. When this happens they are some distance BACK from the globe seat. Everything will go together OK and function OK. It's just that the globe is positioned back too far and of course the headlight reflector cant do its job. Thus, poor light.

Good find! So do you believe the bulbs were incorrectly installed originally? Or had somebody removed/reinstalled them and didn't seat them properly? Either way, great that you've got it fixed.

Re: HID Light Issues 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited

Hi Brad,
OK. Two issues went on with this.

1. Globes were NOT seated properly Originally
2. When I had the globes replaced, to cure the 'low light' issue. They didn't seat the globes properly either. So an expensive set of globes for no benefit.

We were really confused after the new globes went in an NO change to light output! That started the whole 'back to basics' approach to find out what was going wrong.

Glad that learning curve is over!

Cheers Peter
