Here is the situation I found myself in yesterday...I was out on the river kayaking and had the key fob tucked in my preserver. I got back on sure and thought it would be nice to have a cool car so utilized the remote start feature and the TH kicked right up. Got to the car and thought it would be smart to set the brake since I would be working around the car getting the kayak on to the roof, etc. I placed the fob back in my preserver and threw it into the back of the car, I set the brake but I did NOT press the start/stop button to take off remote start setting, you know what happen next?! Shut the door only to find all of the doors are locked because it is still in remote start mode I guess? Luckily I was only two miles from home so made the run for the second fob. I have accidently left fob in the car before and tried to lock it only to be told fob still in car and it would not lock. Lesson learned the hard way I do guess.
do not think distance has anything to do with it since my preserver was in the front seat. I think it is merely the fact that when remotely started the doors are always locked to prevent someone getting in who is not suppose to get in. Still not sure why it let me shut door with fob in vehicle....weird for sure.
Yeah good idea. Would be wise to have a trusted family member or friend with the app too. That way if your phone is in the car to you can always borrow a stranger cell or public phone and call your trusted friend to unlock the vehicle for you with the required pin.
The more I think about my scenario the more perplexing it gets...I do not recall that I touched the start/stop button to take it off remote start mode (maybe I did and do not recall?) but then why did the vehicle run for over 30mins? if I did hit the button why did the car then lock all the doors with the fob in the vehicle? In the past the doors would not lock with fob in the vehicle. Very weird....that is life I guess, by the way my phone was sitting in the console bin so of no use to me for uconnect app help (I do not subscribe to Uconnect anyway)
I agree it's a head scratcher. Seems one of the two fail safes would have either prevented the doors from being locked or the jeep to have continued running. Weird. Sounds like my luck.
have you had all software updates applied to your jeep? I know my 14 used to let me lock the doors with the fob in it (ask me how i know lol) but after an update it now wont lock if the fob is inside.
Jeep was at the dealership last month and was completely up to date at that time. I am still very perplexed about the entire situation and no one has a viable answer. Guess going forward fob always stays in my pocket!
Perhaps the Remote Start constantly checks to assure the doors are locked and relocks automatically if it finds doors or tailgate unlocked at any time while Remote Start is active. FYI, the Jeep will lock from the exterior lock buttons with a fob inside upon 3 tries...with a warning beep. For your next river trip, consider taking your mechanical key with you and lock your Fob inside...to keep it dry.
