Re: Is there real gas mileage from owners ?

My combined city and highway MPG on my Cherokee Limited V6 FWD is 25. Haven't done any all highway driving yet. Hope to get at least 28 or better. Just over 1500 miles on the odometer. My experience with all new cars is the mileage improves once the car is completely broken in. Using 87 octane gas BTW.

Just trying to figure out how to add a OEM trailer hitch and tow hooks to this new one.

The OEM hitch should not be a problem depending if you have the outline of where it goes in the bumper molding. That's an investment that a dealer could do for you. You would also want to integrate the wiring plugs into the same set up and to make sure it is all correct and works.

I would also like to put those red tow hooks on my Limited. For that I'll have to wait and see if someone has done those tow hooks on their non trail Hawk Cherokee.
I would think the hooks would be pretty straight forward.

Not really. The TH uses a different rear crossmember that has a provision for the tow hook. On the THs with the tow package, the hitch cross member also has this provision in it.

On the front there are special mounts for the tow hooks on the frame.

I stand corrected. I do remember there is a difference between the Trail Hawk and the rest of the Cherokees as far as the hitch goes. You would have make sure you get the Trail Hawk version. I do think it would be better to have the dealer install something like that.
On the Tow hooks I do see they come with brackets if ordered that way, and see no reason they could not be fitted on a limited, Latitude, or Sport. I can't see Jeep producing two different frames just for the Trail Hawk's tow hooks.
So I am kind of waiting to see who will be the first to actually put them on a non Trail Hawk and how they did it if it was possible.

Re: Is there real gas mileage from owners ?

Second day got better. Last full tank run of 339 miles was highly acceptable. Computer said 28.1 and manual calculation (subject to fill variances) was 26.9. Most of the 339 miles was at 70 mph. In one stretch of construction where we drove a constant 60 for about 20 miles the instant reading was over 35 mpg.

From our last fill to our home in FLA was 104 miles and computer indicated a further improvement to 29.2 mpg. If it was a real 28 I'll be delighted. For the next two months it will be primarily city driving. I'm hoping that will yield at least 21 or 22.

Seems you guys are doing better than me. I have a 50/50 city highway commute to work. I have the v6 Hawk. I'm getting 16.4 and I'm not happy about this. I feel like the transmission is launching me threw the gears and I'm burning gas.

Re: Is there real gas mileage from owners ?

I am hitting right about 19.8-20 mpg mostly running around town in the auto mode. Been cold even here in Texas. Hope for a little better as it warms back up.

App 650 miles on it.

Re: Is there real gas mileage from owners ?

as an update to my original post:

latitude awd 2.4;

getting around 22 mpg overall calculated by gallons added over miles; obviously better when strictly highway though. Computer reads higher.

Re: Is there real gas mileage from owners ?

My TH is still in D1 with expected delivery date of 1/28 (insert laugh track here)...I am seriously reconsidering the V6 after seeing reports here and other places of not getting even near the estimated MPG rating. Especially since I really don't need the TH since we have a truck for towing the boat and toys. We went with the V6 since the mileage wasn't much different and the TH model because I didn't like the wheels/tires on the Limited...and knew I would have to sink a bunch of money in tires.

Since this is the first vehicle that I have gotten to choose exactly what "I" wanted, I worry if the MPGs are going to be way worse than advertised and I will have to live with listening to my DH B***C about the money we spend for gas all because I preferred the look of the TH...UGH!!!

Re: Is there real gas mileage from owners ?

Our first mixed tank was a bit over 24 mpg and I was pleased with that. The problem with city driving comparisons is traffic and lights. If one is continually hitting red lights and also getting caught in backups the results can be terrible on all vehicles (except hybrids that shut down). This tank involved hitting some bad light series and a few backups but nothing severe. Continue to be pleased with the mpg and features of the vehicle. Ours has the off road suspension which certainly is staff but the entire vehicle seems very solid - more than I expected.

Thanks, I am feeling a bit better. Do you have the V6? (I can use this with hubs!)
