KL Cherokee Accessories Timeout

G'Day All,

Ran in to this problem at the Drive-In Movies a few months ago, and we're finally thinking of going again. Hope you are able to help.

I put the push button ignition into "accessories" and run the FM radio to listen to the movie audio. But after 30 or so minutes the accessories time out and the radio turns off! This is particualatly annoying if we are sitting in the back of the jeep and I have to run around to the driver's door to activate the accessories again.

We have the uConnect 8.4 installed. I've tried scrolling through the options and reading the user manual but haven't been able to find any way around the problem.

Is there any way to extend the accessories time out? Either permanently or by performing some action during the 30 minute period?

Sincerely,

Shane.

The last I heard there was a setting to extend that out, but do not quote me on that.
That might be a question for your service department or a customer inquiriy to customer care at FCA. Good luck

Not one that I have seen. When doing a uconnect update you need the ignition full on so it doesnt shut down part way through but not sure I would like to leave the ignition on for a full movie!

Through Uconnect 8.4/8.4N you can change how long the radio will stay on after turning ignition to off but not over 30 minutes. Controls/Settings/Engine off options/Engine off power delay. With the ignition on accessory, 30 minutes is about it due to battery saver that prevent dead battery. Only the rear cargo area 12V outlet can be switched to power all the time by moving the fuse one notch over.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a shame this functionality is limited to 30 minutes. As mentioned Jeep provide plenty of other opportunities to drain the battery (with power outlets etc.), I should be able to run it flat with the radio if I want!

I'll run the question by the service department. I'm sure the delay would be programmable in the ignition module. Whether the service department is willing or able to adjust it is another question.

Checked this one out. Unfortunately under Controls/Settings/Engine off I only have headlight off delay. Might be because I have an international version.

Re: KL Cherokee Accessories Timeout

As @SeaComms commented, what's the harm in leaving the ignition in RUN state without the engine running? Might run the battery down a little quicker. Other than that, it's not like an old car with points.

Gave this a try. Unfortunately suffered the same 30 minute time out even with ignition on and the motor off.

Was your KL purchased in North America? A month ago I was doing some OBDII/CAN Bus testing and left the ignition on without the engine running for over three hours.

Page 302-305 of the 2015 CHEROKEE Owners Manual.

F92 fuse 20A Yellow Rear Outlet.

"ELECTRICAL POWER OUTLETS
Your vehicle is equipped with 12 Volt (13 Amp) power
outlets that can be used to power cellular phones, small
electronics and other low powered electrical accessories.
The power outlets are labeled with either a “key” or a
“battery” symbol to indicate how the outlet is powered.
Power outlets labeled with a “key” are powered when
the ignition switch is in the ON or ACC position, while
the outlets labeled with a “battery” are connected directly
to the battery and powered at all times.
NOTE:

All accessories connected to the “battery” powered

outlets should be removed or turned off when the

vehicle is not in use to protect the battery against

discharge.

A third fused 12 Volt power outlet is located on the left

quarter trim panel in the cargo area. This power outlet

has power available when the ignition switch is in the

ON or ACC position.

NOTE:

The rear power outlet can be switched to “battery”

powered all the time by moving the rear power

outlet fuse in the fuse panel. Refer to your local authorized

Jeep Dealer for further details."

The fuse is under the hood box and the location will be marked under the cover.
