Money Back for Shipping Fail?

Here's a question for all you wonderful knowledgeable people. My wife's and my first jeep was ordered back in January. We were D1 on 01/24/14. Build date was 02/14/14 and KZ date was 02/15/14. We're still waiting on it.

It took a few days to negotiate Ohio but once it finally got routed to North Carolina it was making good time. It got to the railhead here in NC on 02/26/14 and there it has sat. My dealer called the railhead on the 27th and asked them to expedite it so the dealer could have it before the end of the month so we could close on it. They were told by the dispatch there that it was on a truck and would be there on the 28th. Excited for our Jeep, my wife and I went to the dealer only to find it was nowhere in sight. The dealer said they expected it Saturday, then it was Monday, then today. Now the dealer finds out that the auto carrier up at the railhead gave the job to a different carrier and now no one knows where it is.

My question is simple, I paid $995 for the "Destination Fee" is it unreasonable to ask for a kickback? Seeing as this shipment has taken 17 days at this point and will most likely be 18-20 days total to get a car from Toledo to North Carolina, it seems someone has dropped the ball. Now it sits 2 hours away from me and I can't do anything about it.

Would it be the dealer or Jeep corporate that's at fault? At first I assumed corporate, but now I'm thinking that the dealer should have been a bit more proactive about finding it.

The main issue I have is that we recently shipped a car from CA to NC and it took 10 days total and cost $775 to go almost completely across the entire country, not just down the east coast.

Thanks for the input!

There is no guarantee of ship date. You don't own what is being shipped. When it gets there you have the option to buy it or not. Its neither Chrysler's nor the dealers fault. Maybe you should put a claim in with Mother Nature.

You aren't entitled to anything.

Sorry if I came off entitled, just asking if it's worth looking for some money off the cost. I'm gunna buy it no matter what, just seems a pain to pay the same cost as others for a worse delivery product. The dealer mentioned to me today that the reason they knew something was wrong was when other orders that were built after mine were coming in before mine.

Re: Money Back for Shipping Fail?

I certainly feel your pain - i was told by my dealer when i ordered that it would take 5 weeks - 6 max from order to delivery. I can tell from current data available on MOTS for Cherokee deliveries in 2014, total time from order through dealer delivery is averaging 56 days (out of 24 deliveries) - average of 8 weeks.
Had I been told special order delivery would take 7-9 weeks I might have made a different choice (take from available inventory), especially since I've been renting a car the last 4 weeks.
Since were both on week 7 of our ordering process, I'm guessing we too will have our Cherokees soon...
Getting back to your original point, I don't think you will have much luck on getting the delivery fee eliminated/discounted - Worth a shot though
