Re: Music people: uConnect confusion- help plz

Splurged on 3 SD cards yesterday. Got a San Disk Extreme SDXC UHS-1 64GB 80MB/s 533x but put it in one of my cameras - very nice improvement in speed. This camera has a 60x optical zoom and I'll be using it a lot at Waterford Hills where my son races.

Got a Lexar Platinum II SDXC UHS-1 30MB/s 200x. Transfered the 6400+ songs on to it. Cherokee would NOT recognize this SD card. Format is Ex-Fat. I wonder if that is the problem OR will it not recognize over 32GB (from memory someone reported using more than 32GB). If reformatted in FAT32 will the card be recognized and work?

Also got a Lexar Platimum II SDHC UHS-1 32GB 30MB/s 200x. Transferred the music to this card and it worked fine. Enough faster than the older slower 32GB cards I'd used earlier to warrant the purchase. I forgot to look at the format and DW has the Cherokee out shopping now. Will check when she returns.

Just checked the Lexar web site. 32GB is FAT32 formatted (since it covered 2GB to 32GB) and they say that the SDXC is not backwards compatible with a host device designed for SD and SDHC - which is obvious except that some have reported they do work at times. I think the issue there is that testing may not have identified that some data (over the 32GB may not actually be showing up).

Yeah. Its not compatible with exfat which is the format used on all sdxc cards according to uconnect and personal attempts. Still not buying others have it working as I tried both sdhc and sdxc and sdxc didn't work.
Sdhc is limited to 32gb and fat32, its not a memory size issue with uconnect but the storage format issue...though the 2 are related. If there was a 64gb fat32 card it should work fine.

Well, she got back from shopping and I asked her what she listened to on the sound system. NOTHING. I went out and sure enough the message was insert an SD card. It was in. I popped it out and then re-inserted and it worked fine. If that has to be done every time she takes it out, she will end up listening to only SiriusXM unless I'm driving.

We went out a bit later to review the instrument panel options - sure enough, got the message insert SD card. Popped out and then back in and it worked immediately.

I have a feeling the USB thumb drive may end up back in the centre glove box and I'll put the 32GB SD card in her camera. She'll take 5 years to fill it.

With all of the programming done on a vehicle now, one starts to get the feeling that the testing may not have been extensive enough.

Re: Music people: uConnect confusion- help plz

People, people, some simple facts.

FAT32 is an old system, and it's biggest downside for current media is that it has a file size restriction of 4GB. That is for one file. so unless you have Wagner's Ring Cycle as one AAC 320kbps file, this won't be an issue.

There is NO need to format to exFAT.
exFAT was created to allow most systems that can only read FAT32 to handle a file size over 4GB. Most systems, not all. Again, as you will not have a file greater than 4GB to play, there is no reason in the known world to bother formatting to this system.

This is not correct, most will come formatted to NTFS. Either way, it takes next to no effort to re-format to FAT32 if you so desire.

NTSFS has been confirmed to work by myself and may others on Jeep Garage, no reason to not use it.

Why would I and many others lie?
To deliberately mislead other members of Jeep Garage for some juvenile troll thrill?
I guess I do have a very low rep level and history of not helping others so it is best to disregard all information I have shared as a lie.

ORRRRR maybe it is possible that not all SD cards are the same, maybe the file format you see on a website is not the same that is actually on a card.

You now have 3 new SD cards, how about you try all three in either FAT32 or NTFS and see what results you get.
Also check that you are on the latest firmware for Uconnect to make sure any updates covering playback form SD cards is covered.
Don't check the Lexar or SanDisk websites for the format type, check the actual card, then you can be sure. Format them yourself.
