Nav system - what a pleasant surprise

I have the top Nav System offered in 2012 in my Town & Country. It really has been a disappointment as it was not as good as the system in my previous Flex. Well, the 8.4Nav system in the Cherokee is head and shoulders over the T&C and Flex. What a pleasant surprise with new features galore.

We paired 3 cell phones with it very quickly and then started exploring. It leaves my previous systems (including one in a Tahoe) in the dust. To my surprise, a four year old iPod Touch with 6400 songs linked into the system very well and I could operate it with the radio controls. Could not do that with the unit in the T&C or the Flex.

My Dear Wife is really impressed with the Limited. There are a few other things she'd like but for now she is overwhelmed with all the gadgets.

I've got to do something now that she has far more gadgets than me.

We were both impressed with the "flexible" guide lines in the backup camera that "bends" to predict the path of the Limited as you back out of a parking space. Neat. I'm going to love driving her car. Couldn't say that very loudly for her previous 2011 Escape Limited.

It is going to take a while to get through all the features. Only one thing concerns me and that is the installation of baseplates for towing behind our motorhome (the primary reason for the trade - Escape only had 20,000 miles on it). That radar unit in the front grill could present problems. At this time none of the baseplate providers have indicated that they have a baseplate available. Fingers crossed.

Blue Ox just did a test fit on the Limited. I was told the base plates should be ready in a few weeks. You might want to call them about your concerns. I have a Trailhawk and was hoping the base plates would be the same fit but they aren't. Still waiting for a Trailhawk to be done as a test fit. I would do it but time and distance are a concern.

Had we received our Limited in August or early September as expected (hoped?) we were going to head right for Pender Nebraska and be first in line. I felt that getting the plates free as well as a new tow bar would easily offset the travel cost. We also planned to do some sightseeing in the area since we've never been there. We head back to Florida early in 2014 so we'll just wait and watch the outcome. I'm going to be curious to see the instructions when they post them. I have a feeling it is going to be a very costly installation with a lot of the front end coming off and that means a lot of extra work with all the sensors up front.

GR

ps. Our motorhome is in storage for the winter and we are having thoughts of selling and getting a small trailer as we can only see using it for a few weeks in the summer. We no longer take it to Florida.

I have to go to the storage lot this week and check the label on the tires. It appears they have been recalled (3 years old) as Michelin is going to replace 1.2 million tires because 200 have thrown belts.
