Oil Change

HI Folks,

Serious question here.

How much oil is needed for an oil change on the 2015 Cherokee w/ 3.2l V6?
My user guide states 5.6l or 6 us quarts with a new filter.
Took it to Dealer where we bought it (new). Took 6 quarts of oil to use (synthetic). When it was done they told me I didn't bring enough oil and to add a quart when I got home (had more at home). They said it was only at the "add" line when done being changed.
I checked when home - it was just above the "add" line. Added another quart. Now up to 7 quarts in it.
Has anyone else had this experience? Is user guide wrong?

Thank's in advance for answers.
Johnny

Re: Oil Change

Let me see if I understand you correctly.....you brought your own oil to a Dealer, who then changed it for you?? And they told you that you didn't bring enough? I never heard of a "Dealer" letting you bring oil, particularly on a brand new vehicle??

I never did either until I joined Jeep Garage.

Shops where I grew up had signs that said, "You wouldn't bring your own eggs to a diner, don't bring your own parts to us".

Re: Oil Change

Dealer has no problem with bringing in own oil - still paying labor.
It's Amsoil 5w-20.
I've done it with my other vehicle as well.
Any idea on the proper quantity.

Re: Oil Change

I checked the owner's manual, it says the same as your user's guide ... 6 quarts.

Give it another check first thing in the morning, before starting it.

Re: Oil Change

That is funny because several of us with the V8s, which requires 7 quarts end up on the add a quart area when we put 7 quarts in. Putting in 8 brings it up to the full line but then you are over filled a quart right or not who knows. someone on here even had the dealer confirm the issues and opened a star case on it not sure what ever happened to that though. Just makes me laugh to hear the same thing on a different engine and platform.

Now on my SRT8 07 & 2012 i always took in my 7 gts of oil and it would show about 1/4 inch above the full mark.

Re: Oil Change

Was the filter changed? The filter will take some volume to refill.
Oil level should be measured when the oil is warm.
