Oily Residue on Exterior

I'm looking for any recalls or TSBs concerning an oily residue down the sides of my wife's 2015 Cherokee. It's all over the wheels and down the sides on both sides.
No excessive oil consumption, no smoking, vehicle only has 12K on it with mostly highway driving.
Headed for dealership tomorrow for hatchback recall, and would like to know if anyone has had similar experience with the residue or knows of a service bulletin.

Thanks,

Rick N

My guess it is not directly from the Cherokee but a result of what was in the air where your wife parked or possibly what she drove through. I can't figure out anyway the residue could come from the Cherokee and be down both sides that throughly.

Any Chance it could be tire shine if you had just cleaned it, it would be sling from the excessive residue.

If the oily film originated from your vehicle it would normally present on the tailgate and not the sides. It sounds more like she drove through something or was behind another vehicle with a leak.

Re: Oily Residue on Exterior

Normally,I would agree about the tailgate having most of the residue. However, we had a similar problem with our Cadillac CTS in the past, and it was a defective crankcase ventilation system ( did not have a PCV valve), which I fixed myself. So I was a little apprehensive.

In a past life I was the Parts Manager for our local Jeep Dealership, so I am aware of the purpose behind TSB's.

In this instance, it's starting to appear that the dealership sprayed the wheels with some sort of conditioner that slung off going down the road, and attracted dirt, and left specks all down both sides of the car. I washed it off with a high pressure hose at a car wash, and so far it has not returned.
