Re: RO1 Recall

I called my service manager today and asked him "OK how long is it going to take" He said between 3-4 hours and said he was sure of it. He said anything less and they aren't doing it right.

Re: RO1 Recall

Had RO1 performed today, took 2 hours. Included the Drive and learn. Dealer told me that it would take a couple of days of driving to learn my particular driving habits so expect some shift differences. Time will tell.

Re: RO1 Recall

Can anyone confirm this applies to Trailhawks, as my Canadian dealer is saying my VIN not showing this service required. I ordered it in Jan 2014 and received in May 2014 so I know it falls within the build dates, why would the Trailhawks not get this reflash on the 9spd?

Pat.

Yes i have the full print out of the R01 details, the problem is I read that as my vehicle should get this reflash, but a VIN check on Jeep.ca only shows some BCM reflash at this time. I have the 3.2 and the only transmission is the 9 speeed auto, might there be a code other than DFH or DFJ for the Trailhawk,

Thanks,

Pat

I have a (US delivered) TrailHawk, build date Jan 2014, and the VIN shows two recall - for the tranny and the airbag sensor software updates.

Re: RO1 Recall

I read it the same way you do.

2014-2015 (KL) Jeep Cherokee...That means all Cherokee models.

The DHF and DHJ are the sales codes for the transmissions, AD1 and AD2.

So, if it is built between the dates stated on the recall, it applies to your vehicle.
I don't know if you have the option, but if you do, go to another dealer.

Yes, it does show 2. But the two recalls are very different. While the R05 is a safety recall and just short of mandatory (there are some states they won't let you renew your registration if you do not have safety recalls done) (there is new legislation being proposed to make this US wide) the R01 is not a mandatory recall as it does not effect safety and you most likely will never get a letter on it. I never got a letter on the R01 nor did I get a pop up on my owner connect like I did with the R05. In any case you couldn't pay me to have the R01 performed on my perfectly working 2014 Cherokee Limited, ADII, 3.2L Jeep 9 speed transmission. If its not broken, don't fix it (or it will be broken). BTW, FWIIW, the R01 was out as a TSB before its was reissued as R01.

**** After discussing the R05 with Auburn Hills this is what I learned. If you drive your Cherokee normally as in shopping and to and from work this is nothing to worry about. What sets the airbag seniors off is putting your jeep at a sharp angle such as in off roading. The purpose of the software upgrade is to reprogram what is an acceptable angle. Chrysler expects your local dealer service department to have the software upgrade after March 26th.

I thought the R01 recall is supposed to alter the shift characteristics to alleviate any possible issues with internal hardware. I have read of noticeable increases in fuel mileage as well. If Jeep wants it done on vehicles still on the lot, I see no reason not to have mine done.

Pat: Do whatever you want. It is your Jeep. I am not making decisions for you. I know I am not having R01 applied to my Cherokee but will have R05 done. All I know is I have a 11/13 build, it has never had a transmission TSB/flash of any kind done to it, it is perfect, and I am not about to risk screwing it up. I have had the service manager at my dealership and an engineer at Auburn Hills (I live in an area near Chrysler headquarters where many of the Chrysler engineers live.) both advise me to leave well enough alone. The engineer told me off the record that the biggest problem with the 9 speed can't be fixed with a flash. The problem is caused by shavings during assembly. If you have one of those transmission with shaving in it the only fix is replacement. The tolerances in the 9 speed are closer than anything Chrysler has ever dealt with before. Once you apply a flash there is no way to go back to how it was before the flash. So if you apply R01 and it screws up your transmission the only fix is a transmission replacement. You might want to carefully think about that. I have read of more transmissions being screwed up after flashes than fixed. I figure my service manger and the Chrysler engineer have a lot more expertise than I do and I am going to take their advice. BTW, every TSB I have ever seen in my 64 years has instructions in it to apply the TSB to all new cars on the dealer lot so the fact this one does too is not unique or unusual. It is just routine.

Re: RO1 Recall

Yes and on top of that the RO1 is a complicated install.
All software has to be installed in a particular order.
If not they list one possibility: the vehicle will not even function to get out of the service bay.
What I believe they are addressing is poor/rough shifting. Even minor shifting issues can cause wear on this transmission, thus "Durability" issues.
I agree I will leave mine alone till my dealer says to do it. As of now RO1 is not showing up under my VIN. With a 12/11/13 build its running perfect with no updates. With a 5/50 and a Max Care Life I am covered!
Its running great and I want to keep it that way.
