Safety Recall - 2014 and 2015 Cherokee [KL]

Yesterday I just received yet another recall/notification for my 2015 Cherokee. The safety recall [S55/NHTSA 16V-529] is for the TRANSAXLE WIRE HARNESS. Has anyone one else received the recall???

Here we go again with another recall and trip to the dealer. Enough all ready FCA...

Well you could just ignore it if you want!

Seriously though, this one is about the possibility of it slipping into neutral whilst driving so probably not a bad one to have done!

SeaComms, of course I will have the recall done!

It is a little tiring and time consuming to keep running back to the dealer. Over the course of ownership I have had 3-recalls now this is my 4-th as well as a transmission replaced.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's a bit like a Microsoft rollout. Get it looking good, sent it out to the public half working then keep sending out fixes for all the bits not yet finished!

Re: Safety Recall - 2014 and 2015 Cherokee [KL]

I agree recalls are a pain having had probably 5 on my 2014 TH. I am not sure why people jump on the manufacturers for doing recalls, I salute them for tracking issues and taking the initiative to call them in for repairs. The real issue here is our legal system that is just waiting to bring mega suits that only raises the sticker price for all of us. Who do you think is going to pay for all the real work? yes, if one of my loved ones had died because of a faulty air bag I would have been very upset but there is risk to everything in life folks, compare the cars that we drive today against cars of 10, 20, 30 years ago and boy have we made progress or what! Why are people so quick to blame someone else for everything? I see bald tires, poor brakes, poorly maintained vehicles on the road all the time nothing happens until and accident and then it is the fault of the car in some way.

Re: Safety Recall - 2014 and 2015 Cherokee [KL]

My wife got the interim notification letter yesterday for her 2014 Cherokee. This morning the transmission went into neutral. After a restart it made it back home in limp mode. I'm glad it happened today as she had a 300 mile round trip for a meeting yesterday. I have to call this morning to set up with the dealer and look into any other recalls such as the wiper. I will also have to look into a rental and get my GC back. She's a spaz and I miss my GC already.

Just got my recall notice yesterday. Notice implies that my vehicle may experience unsafe behavior, but drive it until they can find the time to manufacture the parts. Hmmmmm.

We got lucky that it happened close to home and we live in the boonies. The transmission just unexpectedly shifts to neutral and dies right there. A restart is required to get it into limp mode and get moving again. I would hate to think what happens in traffic. (Especially if being tailgated by an impatient driver who is also applying makeup with one hand watching the mirror, texting with the other hand and steering with their knees. I've seen them. A fear for your life - self defense claim should be perfectly legal.)

Got mine also! Its now 4 or 5 recalls as I have lost count in almost 3 years.
But remember its the notice only and the parts are not available as of yet.
You will get another notice when those parts are available and you can set a date at the dealer to have it fixed.
Recalls these days are a fact of life and a good thing that FCA keeps up with on going issues.
I usually have them check for any required updates when its in for the recall.

Re: Safety Recall - 2014 and 2015 Cherokee [KL]

Turns out the recall was not the cause of the wife's car dying and going into limp mode. It needed a valve body and other repairs under warranty. I will update once I've read the service report. Wife is swapping out the courtesy Journey this evening. Nice Journey.

Re: Safety Recall - 2014 and 2015 Cherokee [KL]

I just received my notice today. Figured I was not included but that turns out not to be the case.

I'm wondering what took them so long to notify us given the date of this article reporting this recall?

Chrysler 200, Jeep Cherokee Recalled for Transmission - News - Automotive Fleet

What does an owner who is trading in the Jeep on a different make do at this point?

We have certainly had a lot of issues with our 2014. It can be a wonderful vehicle but the recalls and TSBs are enough to drive one to drink. We towed ours behind a motorhome so we had to go through the entire wiring harness and added power fiasco.

We recently sold our motorhome and will no longer be RVing so we don't need a vehicle that can be towed flat.

Re: Safety Recall - 2014 and 2015 Cherokee [KL]

I just found this on the web - dated two months ago!!!!!!!

2015 Jeep Cherokee Recalls | JeepProblems.com

It lists several recalls.

Why, if this is important for safety reasons, would it take FCA over two months to notify owners???

I get the feeling that someone is going to have to shake up FCA big time to get it working properly.
