Re: Sirius Signal Dropping Out

Chapter 5 Update: The antenna was finally replaced (they said they replaced it) and the drop out is still happening. Not sure where to go from here. It seems like the only thing that might fix the problem is a change to the Sirius satellite from the SXM ones and I don't seem to have the proper power to do this. I guess I will call Sirius and see if this can be done.

Re: Sirius Signal Dropping Out

Sirius in our 2011 Escape (traded on the Cherokee) worked very well - no problems. Same with out 2010 Flex (traded on T&C - which also has Sirius and works fine).

Escape was a nice vehicle and my wife enjoyed it - but we wanted something we could tow four down that had a transfer case with neutral.

Flex was an outstanding vehicle and I'd buy one again. When we stopped taking a motorhome to FLA we needed something that could swellow a lot of her "stuff" and IMO the only vehicle that was appropriate was the T&C.

Sirius Signal Dropping Out

I called Sirius today to see if they had any others fixes for dropped reception before I went back to the dealer. Long story short, they ran some tests and said the problem is not the antenna, is not the location of their satellites, but is with the radio and it should be replaced. Right then I knew I was in for a battle. They gave me a reference number and said the dealer could call them to discuss the tests they did. I went to the dealer this morning and told them what Sirius recommended and needless to say they did not jump at replacing the radio. I was told they would have to talk to the service manager and get back to me on Monday. I think I am going to get caught in a battle between jeep and Sirius. I'll see what happens on Monday.

Re: Sirius Signal Dropping Out

I have a 2014 WK2 Overland with the 8.4AN radio.

A while back I was having issues with the SXM signal dropping out in unusual places... no tall buildings, bridges or hills to be causing that. Had the shark fin antenna replaced under the TSB and that took care of that problem.

My free 1 year trial to Sirius was set to expire on May 15th. About 2 weeks prior to that I started getting those irritating alert tones along with a message to call Sirius. I assumed this was due to my subscription about to end.

Seems like around that same time I started getting a window opening on my display with the message "XM service loading... please wait." The radio would continue playing until the window closed, then it would momentarily blank out the radio and station presets. Everything would come back and radio play would resume. 10 minutes later the same thing would happen all over again.

I never had this issue before. I'm now having this happen almost daily on my 50 mile roundtrip commute to work. It's not a signal dropout as being reported in this thread. And it's continued to do this after I renewed my Sirius subscription.

I was always curious as to why it said "XM service loading" but after reading the posts above it makes sense. Makes me think they switched me over to the XM sattelites. I am not at all happy about that. If this annoyance continues I'll be calling Sirius.

For me I think it's a poor antenna. I have stations on regular fm that won't come in that came in fine on my last vehicle.

Re: Sirius Signal Dropping Out

For me it's a lot of buffering in the hd channels or the hd portion not coming in at all and the sound isn't the same. Sounds like that new antenna installation may help this along with a radio version upgrade.

Sure I get the buffering on xm and HD.

When I couldn't get regular fm stations or they were in and out and on my last vehicle I had no problems on the same roads, I figured antenna.

Re: Sirius Signal Dropping Out

As I expected I (customer) am caught in the middle between Jeep and SXM. The dealer says there is nothing wrong with the radio; the dropped signal is what you get with satellite radio. Sirius says basically the same thing in a slightly different way even though the last time I contacted them they said than ran validation tests and determined something was wrong with the radio and recommended the radio be replaced. As of this morning (5/21/14) the dealer refuses to call Sirius and discuss the validation results. The dealer has turned my concern over to a Chrysler Stars team for review. I have contacted Jeep Customer Care (JCC) and they are reviewing the details and will get back to me on Friday. JCC said that since the dealer is independently owned they cannot force the dealer to do anything. They did say they would talk to the dealer and see if they can get them to call Sirius and review there data. At this point I think I am stuck with the current radio and will have to live with the dropped signals. I am going to install a Visual Garage Shark Fin antenna I just received and see if it makes any difference. If nothing changes at least the antenna looks cool.
