So I got my '15 KL Trailhawk

Hi Gang,

Almost a week in driving my new vehicle. My first impressions are overwhelmingly positive. It is a fantastic ride and I am very positively surprised with the Hazlitt of the interior. For instance, the leather upholstery feels very much premium, unlike the '14 KL TH that we originally tested past September.

The vehicle (knock on the wood) is flawless. Transmission? Yes, you do notice the shifting (with some AT trannies you might not), but it's totally fine with me.

Overall, the finish and fit just scream quality. As far as the drivetrain and 4x4 go, I'll wait until the vehicle has been broken-in, fit it with a set of snow Nokians, and off I go trailblazing!

Hope your KLs arrive shortly to share the passion!

Good luck!

Overall, I highly recommend the vehicle.

Re: So I got my '15 KL Trailhawk

On my 2014 im doing a new test with a full tank of gas driving in auto mode and another test driving in sports mode just to see how much the higher rpm in sports mode will affect the mpg. My last test was only 1/2 tank.I like sports mode because of the higher rpm shifts and the wife likes auto mods because she drives like an old fudd lol. On the freeway the sports mode never gets out of 6th gear unless i go over 80 mph and in auto mode it will get into 9th gear at about 84 mph.

Thanks for the info, @jim383. I am currently breaking it in and I have been feathering the acceleration pedal for the last 500 km.

Re: So I got my '15 KL Trailhawk

Just finished a 1700 mile trip with mine and it ran flawlessly. Averaged 27 mpg and that's going through the mountains and at 75-80 mph. I now have 5023 miles on it and love this Cherokee.

Everything is working as advertised. The ACC is great on the interstate. Stop/start has not presented any problems and don't see why I would want to turn it off.

Just my $.02 worth.

Re: So I got my '15 KL Trailhawk

27 mpg! Wow.

Our new 2015 Trailhawk was getting 16-18mpg until the last transmission flash and now mileage is down to 15mpg. We're back in the dealer shop today for another transmission flash.

I'm curious what rpms you typically run. Ours seems to like to be around 2200-2300, but I'm expecting it should be more like 1500 when cruising 45-55mph.

Do you have a 4 cyl or V6 as the i think the 4 cyl only comes with a 4.08 rear end gear and the V6 has a 3.51 or 3.21 gear which will run at a lower rpm than the 4 cyl do.

Re: So I got my '15 KL Trailhawk

I have the V6 (3.2l). Gas mileage is unchanged after the last service visit, where they flashed the transmission again.

At this point I'm considering returning the vehicle under the Lemon Law. I love everything about this vehicle, but the gas mileage being 40% lower than advertised is more than I can accept. A big part of my purchase consider was that this was an economical SUV, with an efficient engine and transmission. My 3/4 ton pickup gets better gas mileage both in town and on the freeway than this rig.

When are you people going to learn to stop with the transmission flashes? I have a 2014 Cherokee Limited 3.2L ADII. I do 90% of my driving around town and get an average of 20/21 mpg which I am well satisfied with. Here is the kicker though. I have never, ever had a TSB/flash done and don't intend to ever have one done. The flashes screw more things up than fix things and there is no way short of replacing the transmission to ever go back.

BTW, you are going to need a lot more than poor gas mileage to do a Lemon Law return. No where are you ever guaranteed gas mileage. In fact it says your gas mileage may very.

You can consider it, but it won't happen.
