Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

Still looking myself. I can't find anything on this issue. Will probably have to wait until the service manual comes out. Luckily my small trailer is so light I really don't need brakes on it.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

We are trying to figure out how to wire a trailer brake controller into a 2014 KL Cherokee with the factory tow package and 7 way wiring harness.

Yes, and before you ask the other questions you have asked before. There was no pigtail included with the vehicle when I received. I have dug around under the dash and cannot find any open plug that even remotely looks like the connector that is included on the Grand Cherokee with the tow package. So either they wired my TH wrong or the KL uses a different wiring connections for the brake controller.

After a user posted a wiring diagram on another forum I was able to locate the plug for the trailer brake controller.

It is located behind the plastic kick panel in the drivers foot well.

You remove the screw and carefully pry the tab that is holding the kick panel in place from its bracket. The plug is on the firewall/wheel well behind the wiring. It is the grey plug you can see next to the metal bracket. That wire with the finned covering was in front of it and made it hard to find.

It is the standard mopar harness plug. So the normal jeep pigtail should work with your brake controller.

Thank you for your help. I was under the dash 4 times before finally locating the plug. I do apologize for being short with you. It was just really frustrating not being able to find any information on a new vehicle. Wish I could get my hands on a service manual for the KL.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

Good work hudsonhawk! Just when I was about to give up on the Cherokee because of anticipated hassle with installing a TBC. Thank you sir!

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

I was looking at teh 2 plug adapters today. I don't think this uses the same plug as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It looks like it uses the RAM pigtail. I have ordered both and will let you know which one works.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

I received the 3021-P and can verify the plug is the correct one but wiring is different than the Dodge that it was meant for. The ground (white) and brake light (red) feeds are correct but the +12 fused (black) and the trailer brake lines (blue) are switched. So when you plug this adapter into the 2014 Cherokee (KL) the blue wire is 12v hot and the black wire is cold. The wires were all verified using a voltmeter.

I switched the blue and black wires on the vehicle end of the 3021-p harness and will use this with my Prodigy.

So if you just wanted the generic pigtail you would get this one:

But you would still need to switch the black and blue wires in the plug for it to be correct with standard color coding.
