Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

Thanks for all of your work on this. It's too bad it can't be truly plug and play, but switching a couple wires isn't a big deal. Hopefully other people realize this is necessary and don't just plug it in and go.

Matt

Many thanks for posting that information. It will be very useful when I get around to fitting the TBC to our new Cherokee in April.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

From reading early posts to this thread, and with other information, I was concerned that the 7 pin connector may not come from the factory with a complete wiring harness for all 7 pins. The trailer dealership where I have had hitch work done in the past confirms that is sometimes the case, not necessarily referring to Jeep vehicles though. I have a Latitude 4x4, 6cyl, tow package on order. Can I expect that the 7 pin connector will have a wiring harness that connects from front of the vehicle for brake controller wiring and charge line as well as the lights?

I think one can be quite certain that, if you have the factory installed tow package, then you will have the 7 pin fully wired up and a connector under the dash to which you may connect your TBC. If you have any doubts though, you should question your Jeep dealer.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

Does anyone have a recommendation on a preferred TBC for my Cherokee, Latitude with factory tow package? Or which ones to stay away from?

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

I am partial to the Tekonsha Prodigy Line. I have used them in several vehicles and they work very well. Just make sure you get the controller that matchs the type of brakes and number of axles on the trailer.

I used a P-2 in my last 2 vehicles. I upgraded to a P-3 for the Cherokee just because of some of the troubleshotting capabilties is has.

Re: Trailer Brake Controller Installation Question

I have had the Tekonsha P3 for a couple of years or more and have been very, very satisfied with it. I have used it in my '06 Dodge Dakota and my '07 Chevy Avalanche and they have worked great in either one. You can set to the number of axles of your trailer. It is a great TBC.
